This paper is the inspection and the research of Roman education which is an important constituent in the Roman cultural history: We want to outline the rich historical style of ancient Roman educational thought and practice relatively by studying of the background and the developmental process of Roman education. We also analyze its innate characteristic.The full text is divided into 9 parts:Introduction: It has analyzed academic value and the social value of this topic, the present situation of domestic and foreign research as well as the key problems which are going to solve.Chapter One: We have analyzed briefly the primary intention and its idea--thecomprehensive harmonious education of Greek education and its influence to Roman education .And elaborated the influence of the Greek educational pattern to the Roman educational thought and the educational system and the relations between Greek and Roman education. Because of the developmental process of history, the educational thought of Greece influences the aftertime through the development and acceptance of Rome. Therefore, in the western educational history, Rome and Greece are both historical origins.Chapter Two: In this chapter we have outlined the basic appearance of Roman education in the Republic by reading the historical materials carefully, and analyzed some detail problems on initial shape of Roman education. We have divided the early Roman education in the Republic into two stages: In the early education within families and the initial form of three levels of school system as well as the ordinary circumstances of every school.Chapter Three: In this chapter we analyzed Cicero's educational thought and educational practice by reading Cicero's three books on oratory; and analyzed Cicero's important contributions to the Roman oratory education.Chapter four: We analyzed the initial humanism in the Roman education in the Republic.Chapter Five: The development and the change of Roman education in the Empire is the main topic in this Chapter .We discussed the influence of Rome society's reform on the Roman education and discussed the changes in the education system and the contents. We also analyzed Quintilian's educational thought and the practices.Chapter Six: We have discussed specially about the development of Roman oratory and outlined briefly the development of Roman oratory history, and discussed the theory and the method of oratory education.Chapter Seven: We have analyzed the status of Roman education in the education history of the world, also pointed out its historical limitation by summarize the feature of Roman educational thought and the practice which formed in the developing process.Last Part: This part is the conclusion of the text...
