The Study Of Words In Yuan Dianzhang

There are lots of linguistic information in Yuan Dianzhang—The Laws And Decrees Of Yuan Dynasty. And the language of this book is a combination of classic Chinese and spoken Chinese of Yuan Dynasty, so it contains lots of common sayings and official usage. Some words and usage are unique in Chinese linguistic history, so they represent the linguistic style of Yuan Dynasty. Some words appeared in themixed language of Meng and Han Language, they are of great value in the history of Chinese Language, for they are seldom seen in other documents even of Yuan Dynasty. Through our study in the vocabulary of Yuan Dianzhang, We now have a clearer general picture of the vocabulary of early modern Chinese. Besides, we may offer some help to those who work with ancient documents of Yuan Dynasty. Finally, the study in the vocabulary of Yuan Dianzhang is also helpful for compilation of special or comprehensive dictionaries, and the quality of these dictionaries would be better.The dissertation contains five chapters to study the vocabulary of YuanDianzhang.Chapter 1 Generality of Yuan Dianzhang. This chapter is an introduction of the society and documents of Yuan Dynasty, and it offers a summary of the content, linguistic character and the current situation of research in Yuan Dianzhang.Chapter 2 The value of study in Yuan Dianzhang. This chapter offers an estimation of the linguistic style of Yuan Dianzhang. It also shows us the value of the study in the vocabulary of Yuan Dianzhang, as it is helpful for knowing the general picture of vocabulary in modern early Chinese and compiling dictionaries, etc.Chapter 3 The source of the vocabulary in Yuan Dianzhang. We tried to analyze how some of the words in Yuan Dianzhang came into being.Chapter 4 The study in the vocabulary of the mixed-language in Yuan Dianzhang. By giving some examples, we tried to analyze the word-simplification, tri-syllable-word and homograph in Yuan Dianzhang.Chapter 5 The exegeses of some words in Yuan Dianzhang. We tried to interpret and explain some words in Yuan Dianzhang, which are missed in the Great Chinese Dictionary or the Dictionary of Yuan Dynasty. And we tried to correct some of the meanings of the words which are misunderstood in these two dictionaries.
