It brings with it a new model for the development of economy-the knowledge economy, which is not only the most significant innovation in the high-tech industrialization in the 20th century, but will also be the main stream of the world economic development in the 21st century. The study on science and technology development zones, therefore, is gaining increasingattention both at home and abroad. In fact, the theory and practice of the zones is a complicated topic, which involves different aspects and the study of it will be a pioneering project. This author tries to make a profound study, using multi-disciplinary theories and methods, on the regional innovation ability of science and technology development zones. The study will have much significance both in theory and real practice.Chapter one, Science and Technology Development Zones and Their Development Overview, begins with a comparison of a large variety of definitions for Science and Technology Zones given home and abroad. Their common features are analyzed and a more precise definition is given. Starting from this, this author also compares in detail the differences of various economic zones like science and technology development zones, special economic zones, economic development zones and so on. On the basis of this, the author analyses the development of science and technology development zones in China.Chapter two, High Technology and High-tech Industry, and chapter three, Location and Innovation Theory of Science and Technology Development Zones, serve as the preparation for the theory of this thesis. These two chapters study the basic features and law of high technology and its industry. Together with the industry distribution theory and the analyses of high-tech dissemination law, the author makesa. deep study on, and brings to light, the basic law of the location factors of high-tech and its industry as well as the macro-layout of the zones. Innovation theory is also briefed in this part to introduce the analyses of regional innovation ability of science and technology development zones in the next chapter.Chapter four, Structural Analyses of Regional Innovation Ability of Science and Technology Development Zones, is the core of the thesis. The author makes a comprehensive study of previous research methods and results, and proposes the new theory of Integrated Innovation, on which a new theory framework is built up to analyze the regional innovation ability of science and technology development zones. In the process, the nature, major characteristics, basic structure and relationships among structural factors of science and technology development zones, and the local situation in China also taken into consideration.Park zone" is the continuation and deepening of section 4, the purpose of which is to build the evaluation indices system of regional innovation ability of sci. & tech. park zone in China, so as to provide an analysis tool for the further analyze of regional innovation ability of sci. & tech. park zone in China.Chapter 6 "Comparison of regional innovation models of sci. & tech. development zone" chiefly analyzes the innovation models of sci. & tech. development zones which are of distinctive features and typical significance. It further reviews the theory analysis framework of regional innovation ability of sci. & tech. development zones built up in the previous chapter of this and studies the characteristic and operation mode of innovation model of successful sci. & tech. park zone.
