Land use and land cover change(LUCC) is the major contents of global environmental change-human dimension program. Human factors are paid more attention by the academicians with more deeply insight of land use. Agriculturalization, industrilization and urbanization are the main ways of anthropic effects. Urban expansion is the major forms of industrilization and urbanization. It is of great importance for Chinese contribution to global change to study anthropic effects on land use and land cover change. The paper studies the spatial pattern of urban land use. rural land use, urban growth, rural expansion. The main conclusion and achievements can be drawn:1. 1 kilometer cell data sets are made by ARC/INFO software covering all China. It is overlayed with urban and rural vector data in 1990s and the temporal-spatial dataset is gotten.CA and ANN model are used to build the urban zoning model. Urban land percentage, topography, slope and neighborhood index are used to get the zoning value. The second grade zoning of urban land is made to get the first grade zoning.2. Five catogories are classified by the land use vector data and natural zoning map in recent ten years. Urban land use percentage, urban expansion index and index of urban encroachment on cultivated land are used to study urban land use spatial characteristics. The main urban land is concentrated in East Liaoning and East Shandong mountain and highland area, North China plain. Middle Shandong mountain and highland, Huaihe river, middle and lower reaches of Yangtz River, Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian highland plain, North China mountain and highland. Urban land percentage and urban expansion speed is higher in North China plain, Huaihe river, middle and lower reaches of Yangtz River. The major source of urban expansion is cultivated land and it results in the loss of cultivated land and the threat of grain production. Three factors of economy, population and urbanization level are integrated to build urban expansion macro-level model.3. Landscape ecology quantitive method, land use dynamic degree, land use transition matrix are applied to study Beijing, Haikou landscape structure change during rapid urbnization process. Beijing is the capital of China and the political, economic, cultural center of China. With the entrance of world trade organization and the declaration of Olympic games, urban expansion speed in Beijing will be accelerated. Landscape structure and landscape change are influenced by topography. Its change reflects urbanization, rapid industralization and reforestation of cultivated land polices. Natural landscape and diversity increases. In natural landscape, forest area increases, fragmentation decreases and boundary of patches becomes smooth. Grassland area decreases and becomes fragmented. In anthogic landscape, urban and rural patches increase, becomes more compact and favorable to eonomize land. Agricultural land decreases with urban expansion and reforestation of cultivated land, the average patch area decreases and more fragmented. Haikou is typically rapid urbanization area and the rapid real estates development has more effect on urban growth. During the rapid urbanization process, building area and suburb area are expanding quickly. It results in the conversion into urban, rural and anthogic landscape from forest, grassland. cultivated land.4. The spatial distribution, dynamic change and encroachment of cultivated land of ruralIIIsettlements are analyzed by rural settlement land percentage, rural land expansion index, index of rural encroachment on cultivated land. The rural settlements concentrate in the first grade rural population zone, including North China plain, Middle Shandong mountain and highland, East Liaoning and East Shandong mountain and highland, Huaihe River, Middle and Lower reaches of Yangtz River, Northeast plain. These area is the important agricultural zoning where cities and towns are developed, rural settlements are intensive, population density is high. Huaihe River, middle and lower rea...
