Spatial form, which varies in different spatial layer, is the visible character of the inner structure and the rules of development of urban space. The interaction changes among cities in the area brings the evolution of regional shape, the growth or decline of the city scale brings the development of the external shape, and the change of the functional structure inside the cities forms the succession of inner spatial form.Having a large sensing and surveying scale, being synthetical and macroscopical, remote sensing can get information in a large quantity, a fast speed, and a short renewal period. So remote sensing makes a feature of dynamic supervision and survey. Using remote sensing to obtain images from land satellites in different periods and then interpreting these remote sensing, we got eight kinds of remote sensing vector data for the town land, urban greenbelt, urban block water space, main stream water area, highway, railway, airport, port and quay in the Pearl River delta economic zone in the latter part of the 70's, 80's and 90's of the 20th century, and then made these data into vectorgraphs for the town land use of this zone in different periods. By analyzing these vectorgraphs based on the theory of urban outer space form development and the quantitative formula on urban development form in metric geography, this article discusses the urban development form of the Pearl River delta economic zone in the recent 30 years, concludes and summarizes different development forms into three types, makes a contract and analysis on the town development scale and speed in different geographic locations, probes into its inner space development rules. It supports references for concerned departments to make policy and decision.
