| Proceeding from the requirements of the present situation after China's agricultural development stepping into a new period, this article, in accordance with the conditions of our country and uniting practice with theory, systematically, intensively and entirely studies the agricultural structure strategic adjustment in the new period, using synthetically theories of agricultural economics, agricultural technique economics, development economics, system economics, regional economics and international trade. The main contents and points are as follows: 1.It states that the agricultural structure adjustment in the new period is a long-term process and its focus of attention should be put on the industrial structure optimization and upgrading. By means of adjustment, the production structure that helps our agriculture merge into the global economy, the regional structure that conforms to the requirements of the market economy and the social structure that heads for modernization should be established. The article expands the meaning of the strategic adjustment of agricultural structure. And it states that structure adjustment should follow principles of priority to economic efficiency sustainable development, structure optimization and upgrading and farmers as the economic subject. 2.The article makes analysis to the evolution process of the agricultural structure of our country by quantity, the contributions of the agricultural production structure changes to the agricultural economic growth, the changing trend of the agricultural production structure and other aspects; forecasts scientifically for the agricultural production structure of our country for the coming 5-10 years and points out the direction of adjustment and focal points respectively for farm production, fishery, animal husbandry and forestry according to the existing conditions and problems. 3. On the basis of analyzing the agricultural regional structure changing track and the present agricultural conditions and features of different regions, this article further analyses the changing directions of different regions. The article also puts forward the guiding principles and thoughts of developing unique leading products and leading industries for different regions. The article states that different regions should make full use of their resource advantages, develop unique leading products and leading industries, enhance reasonable distribution among regions and the industrial specialization and concentrates production to the regions with rich resources so as to form specialized, large-scaled, intensive and advantageous industrial regions and zones with Chinese characteristics. 4. The article analyzes the problems of grain safety of our country from the links of production, circulation, consumption, etc. It says that for a long time our country has been working very hard to reach the goal of keeping the balance of supply and demand of grain and made world-renowned achievements. But at the same time our country has also paid a heavy price for this. Low benefit in grain production, low efficiency in grain buying and selling, low utility in consumption and low effect in supply and demand and other problems have been bothering our grain economy. Under the WTO frame, our country should lower the preset grain safety goal---95% of self-sufficient grain rate in order to better use the international and internal resources and markets and make more profits from international trade. 5. The article studies the dual structure contradictions and characteristics in urban and rural areas of our country and their effects on the agricultural rural economy. It points out that it is important and urgent to develop agriculture beyond agriculture.
