Under the new circumstance of the 21st century, the organizational structure of enterprises is now undergoing changes. The causes of these changes can be found in the theories of economics, sociology and management. Analyzing the drastic changes of the environment for enterprise organization, this dissertation points out the influence of the environment on enterprise organization, analyzes the theoretical bases for the changes of enterprise organization, inquires into the process of the changes, the theoretical base for the establishment and the trend of governance structure, management structure, production and operation structure, and inter-firm structure of enterprises, and puts forward the development models of the sub-systems of the enterprise organizational structure under the new environment.This dissertation consists of seven chapters, and the content of each chapter is as follows:Chapter 1 IntroductionThis chapter is about the object, the significance and the research methods of this dissertation. After reviewing the documents on organizational structure of different schools, this first chapter defines organizational structure in the new environment. At the end of this chapter, the innovative thoughts in the article are introduced.Chapter 2 Theoretical Analyses of the Evolution of Organizational Structure in the New EnvironmentThis chapter summarizes the evolution theories of enterprise organizational structure under the new environment of the 21st century. This chapter judges and analyzes the general development trend of the environment for the enterprise in the 21st century, the effect of the environment on the enterprise, and the driving forces of theories for the evolution of organizational structure. These theoretical perspectives stem from the system theory, core competency theory, transaction costs economics, knowledge management, human capital theory, and technological determinism.Chapter 3 Adaptive Governance StructureThis chapter first divides the mode of governance structure into the types of stockholder control, manager control, staff control, and co-control, according to the different allocation of the residual control, and studies comparatively these modes. Secondly, it analyzes the origination and establishment of enterprise governance structure by studying the theory of separation of ownership and control, agency theory, and incomplete contract theory. At last, this chapter summarizes the new trend of governance structure and puts forward and analyzes adaptive governance structure.Chapter 4 Network Structure of Management OrganizationThis chapter consists of three sections. Section 1 studies comparatively the management organizational structure modes. Section 2 analyzes the theory documents of management organizational structure so that we can identify the principal rules to organize management structure. Section 3 indicates and studies the new trends and network structure of management organization.Chapter 5 Agile Production-operation Organizational StructureFirstly, this chapter analyzes and summarizes the different stages of production-operation organizational structure of modern enterprise from factory system to mass flow-line production system and then to lean production system. Secondly, this chapter analyzes the background andorigin of agile production-operation organizational structure, and puts forward its definition and characters. Thirdly, this chapter puts forwards the trend of thought of structuring the agile production-operation, organizational struture through process agility, staff agility, and value chain agility.Chapter 6 Inter-firm Structure with Obscure BoundaryThis chapter first analyzes how people comprehend the inter-firm relation. Secondly, it explains the origin of inter-firm relation from the perspectives of the theories of inter-firm coordination, economics of transaction costs, resource dependence and population ecology of organizations.
