On Urban Agglomeration-Spread Economics

The nature of urban lies in its spatial agglomeration, and agglomeration economics is the main feature of urban economics. In turban economics, agglomeration - spread economics has always been considered the important force and accordance of the urban formation, survival and development. The process of urbanization is the one in which resources and factors are redistributed and combined in the industries and regions, and the one in which the elements of enterprises, citizens and resources are integrated with agglomeration and spread. The process will eventually bring forth the adjustment of urban structure and the change & transformation of a whole social economic structure, and further promote the development of urbanization of country as well as sub-urbanization of city. Therefore, different economic agglomeration mechanisms have an important influence on resource allocation efficiency and the process of urban economic development.For a long time, China has been a society in which city and country are separated, the binary structure is only a general statement for the relationship of city and country. The separated state results in deviation of our country's industrialization and urbanization, also in slowing down the process of urbanization. Under this circumstance, its main feature is the stagnation of the mobility of resources and the productive factors, this has made the procedure of China's urbanization mutual effects, namely, the extension of town and the urbanization of countryside. In the course of this, the countryside economy has shown the feature oftown's agglomeration and the urban economy has appeared the feature of sub-urbanization and spread to countryside. Then, the scatter of downtowns and the relative separation between town and urban have played an effect on the efficiency of the agglomeration-spread of the urban economy.The procedure of urban development is the course of the agglomeration-spread and location coordination of the socially economic activities in the space of town, as a specific phenomenon of the behavior of the urban economy, the essay plays an emphasis on the rule of urban economy development by probing into the effects of agglomeration-spread, the lay-out of urban space and the utilization of urban land.There are ten chapters in this dissertation. The first chapter serves as an introduction, which discusses the theories of agglomeration-spread of urban economy, the important meaning of study, the fundamental structure and the analysis methods.The chapters 2, 3 and 4 have a pure theoretical analysis on the efficiency and the mechanism of agglomeration-spread in urban economy. To begin with, it has a theoretical analysis on agglomeration-spread efficiency of urban economy. In fact, agglomeration-spread efficiency is the result of mutual works among agglomeration economy, agglomeration un-economy, spread economy, spread un-economy. We can classify and measure them in different angles, and we may also find out the complicated factors having a great influence upon the procedure of urbanization through economy growth, the utilization of land resource and the scale of urban. Then, the essay makes a study of the control and work mechanism, the conditions of running and restricting of the agglomeration-spread efficiency of urban economy, and of the equilibrium and non-equilibrium of agglomeration-spread of urban economy.
