Now, the process detection and basic control equipment are equipped in large and middle scale sintering plants in China. It is the next assignment that investigating the method of total control of sintering process and developing the sintering process control system.In this paper, the mechanism and technique of sintering process control are investigated by comprehensive utilization of sintering theory, modern control theory and artificial intelligence. An optimum control system for sintering process is developed based on theory study, which earns theoretical significance and practical value.Sintering process is a dynamic system with long circuit, multivariable and complex mechanism, it is hard to perform total control of sintering process using conventional control theory and methods. In this paper, the controlling methods and strategies of sinter process are discussed, after an analysis of the characteristics of sintering process. The complicated total control of sintering porcess is divided into three parts: optimatic control of sinter quality, controlling of sinter qanity and abnormity diagnosis of sintering process. According to goals and characteristics of sintering process control, controlling of sinter composition, permeability state of sinter bed, burning through point (BTP) and abnormity diagnosis are investigation respectively, and optimal control system of sinter producing is developed.In this paper, collect and pretreat methods of real-time information during sintering are studied, which is basis of realization of this system.The practices of sinter producing show that fluctuates of sinter composition affect running of blast furnce, which is a marked problem of raw material of blast furnce. So the control method of sinter composition is investigated, predicted model based on time list and artificial neurnal networks are established, and the controlling strategy of optimization in a range is put forward, then sinter composition is stabilized.Permeability of sinter bed is crucial factor during sintering, which affects quality and qanity of sinter. In this paper, it is judged synthetically using raw material parameters, operating parameters and state parameters.The state of BTP is the mainly dependence for operating on-strand sinter plant, so it is a key middle variable of sintering process. The strategies for controlling BTP are studied deeply in this paper including judging on-line and prediction strategy, which offers the solution of long time delay and hard-detection of BTP. The long-term and short-term controlling model are established. The position of BTP is stabilized by adjust bed high and speed of pallet using fuzzy control technology.In the practical of sintering production, if the abnormities are diagnosed and eliminated in time, the sintering process would be stable and smooth. In this paper, the abnormity diagnosis include mainly protection of equipment, improvation of sinter quality and qanity, abnormity diagnosis of sinter process. According to factors of sinter plant, the fuzzy diagnosis strategy of abnormity of sintering process is put forward, the experience of experts on diagnosing and eliminating abnormities are summarized to working as the dependence of control decision of computer.The software of optimal control system of sinter producing is developed based on object-oriented prototype development method with Visual C++ programming language and successfully applied in actual sintering product.
