Auto industry is one of pillar industries in the national economy, which plays an important role in increasing employment and improving the living standard, etc. Our auto industry has shown weak tendency since we joined the WTO, so the dissertation focuses on what influenced the auto industrial competitiveness of China and how to enhance it. First, the paper discusses the background, aim and meaning of the research, and summarizes the thesis theme, technical route, method and main content. Second, the paper discusses the relevant content and theoretical foundation of industrial competitiveness. Industry points the total of the enterprise economic activity of the same attribute, which is the production of social division of labors and the inevitable outcome of the developing of social productivity. Competitiveness is the capacity that has been presented by the process of occupying the competition object among the competition subjects, which is the behavior of the competition advantage. Industrial competitiveness is the capacity that has been presented by the process of competing among the rivals of a certain industry in a country or a region. Generally speaking, the competition process is realized by contesting the favorable manufacture and sales condition and by providing the production of according with the demand of customer, and its external manifestation is the market share and profit level. The theoretical foundation of this dissertation is the theory of industrial lifecycles, corporate lifecycles, production lifecycles, comparative advantages, competitive advantages, backwardness advantages, and value chain so on. Third, the paper builds the studying frame of industrial competitiveness based on the objective factors and subjective factors through the research on the classical normal form of Michael E. Porter and Port-Dunning, and analyses the factors of influencing the auto industrial competitiveness with the auto industrial characteristic. Thereafter, the paper gives the general rules for forming the auto industrial competitiveness and obtained the mechanism of forming auto industrial competitiveness. Auto industry's characteristic includes production, capital, organization and developing characteristic so on. Auto industry belongs to global industry that has the characteristics of higher industry's concentration degree and stronger related degree and Oligarch's competition; auto production has the large-scale production effects, which needs higher technology and huge capital. Auto industrial competitiveness is formed by the subjective factors that identify the market demand rightly and dispose the industrial resources effectively. And the process of forming auto industrial competitiveness is the process of elevating the resources and exploring the market demand continuously. Fourth, the paper analyses the situation of China's auto industry from participating to WTO, and explores China's auto industrial competitiveness from original equipment manufacture industry and spare part industry. China's auto industry shortened the gaps with international levels, enlarged industrial scale, perfected the regulations and reduced the auto prices continuously after acceding to WTO. There are two successful patterns in China's auto spare part industry. One is the pattern of integrating the global resources of Shuguang Auto Group; the other is the pattern of exerting the mainland cost advantage of Wanxiang Group. There are two typical patterns in China's original equipment manufacture industry. One is the depending patterns of some big corporate group cooperating with the transnational company; the other is the autonomous pattern of Geely Holding Group and Chery Group. There are some questions under the depending patterns such as blank in core technology, weak in initiative power and declined in cooperative power. But the autonomous pattern could owe the intellectual property right and national brand and could support the sustainable development. Fifth, the paper builds an index system including product competitive capacity, market competitive capacity, technology competitive capacity, capital competitive capacity, circumstance competitive capacity and organizational competitive capacity. Ensuring the indexes to be scientific and fair, a suit of procedure is to be used. Firstly, the indexes are to be examined by the Expert's Investigation Method; secondly, correlation variable coefficient is used to identify the redundant indexes; thirdly, Coefficient of variation is used to do the examination of the specification power of the indexes, so we can attain the needed indexes after previous treatment. In order to do the synthesizing measurement of auto industrial competitiveness, Factor Analysis Modal and Cluster Analysis Method are to be used. By the applying to the case, the result is satisfied. Sixth, the paper takes the previous theory and method to apply. Demonstration research includes two parts, one is the synthesizing measurement of auto industrial competitive inside China including 28 provinces and cities and during 1992-2003; the other is the synthesizing measurement of China's auto industrial international competitiveness including China, America, Japan, Korea and Germany. The research discloses that there are four kinds of region that developed quite differently in our country, and the cluster-developing mode is showed. The other discovery is that China's auto industry competitive capacity is very weak comparing with four referencing countries, and we should improve the industrial efficiency and strengthen the investment of research and development. Seventh, the paper offers some advice for China's auto industrial competitiveness. In government regulation, we should consummate the industrial...
