Explore The Double Variation

The guiding thought of the Communist Party of China is not only the guideline for various tasks of the CPC, but also a theoretical system advancing with time. The studies on the guiding thought of the CPC have always been an important component in the subject of scientific socialism and history of CPC. It is also a significant topic in the field of social science which has attracted the attention of the scholars. However, the present studies on the guiding thought of the CPC are primarily focused on the three symbolic achievements—Mao Zedong Thought-, Deng Xiao-ping Theory and The Important Thought of "Three Represents" . And there are few researches on the guiding thought of the CPC during 1949 and 1978. Taking the guiding thought of the CPC during the early period of socialist construction (1949-1978) as the research subject, this thesis first indicates that the general feature of its development is "double variations" of the correct development trend and the false development trend. Then from the perspective of system theory, it deconstructs the guiding thought of the CPC into three layers, i.e. the overall guiding thought as the first layer, the guiding thought in economic, political, cultural constructions as the second, and the concrete guiding thought in different fields as the third. The thesis investigates ail-roundly the evolution and the main contents of the two development trends in each layer and analyzes their respective features, underlying causes and influence. Besides the introduction and the conclusion, there are altogether five chapters in the thesis.The introduction of the thesis attempts to define the meaning of the terms "the early period of socialist construction" , "the guiding thought of the Party" and "the two development trends" . It points out that exploration is the main track of the guiding thought of the Party in the early period of socialist construction. Chapter one provides a survey over the evolution and the main contents of the two development trends in the Party' s overall guiding thought. Then in Chapter two, three and four, the general guiding thought in each field of economic, political and cultural constructions is interpreted in detail, including the specific manifestation of the two development trends of the Party' s guiding thought in each concrete field of the society. The last chapter analyses the interweaving and penetrating characteristics of the two development trends, the causes underlying the occurrence of such a situation and the influence of the two development trends on the formation and development of Deng Xiao-ping Theory. The conclusion draws some inspirations for the theoretical innovation of the Party' s guiding thought.
