As pioneers of the Chinese working class, the Chinese people and the Chinese nation, the CPC has already written clearly on the flag of her guiding ideology with Marxism-Leninism, MAO Zedong Thought and the System of Theories of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics. The guiding thought of the CPC is the guideline for her various tasks. The studies on the guiding thought of the CPC have always been an important component in the subject of the history of CPC.During the ten years between the Eighth National Congress in 1956 and the Great Cultural Revolution in 1966, the guiding thought of the CPC presents a feature of"Two Development Trends"obviously: One is correct and comparatively correct development trend, the other is wrong development trend. The former is mainly displayed during the exploration around the Eighth National Congress in 1956, about nine months before Lushan meeting in 1959 and the five-year period of adjusting national economy. The latter mainly shown by the "Great Leap Forward" movement in economic and the class struggle evolved over time in politics. There are many reasons for the appearance of"Two Development Trends". Subjectively, Mao Zedong himself and the Central Committee of the Communist Party leaders have different views on how to build a socialist society during different periods. Objectively, complex international environment has an impact on the Central Committee of the Communist Party leaders and there still exist defects in the decision-making system of the Party and country. The"Two Development Trends"in the guiding thought of the CPC produced entirely different effects for the practice of Chinese socialist construction. The correct development trend has laid solid material and technical base, cultivated a large number of cadres and intellectuals team, and accumulated valuable spiritual wealth. While the wrong one produced negative influences on the speed and quality of China's socialist construction, even gradually outweighed the correct development trend temporarily, and eventually led to the "Great Cultural Revolution".We can reach the following historical enlightenments through study on the"Two Development Trends"of the guiding thought of the CPC during 1956 and 1966: firstly, we should affirm the spirit of exploring actively in the guiding thought of the CPC for its keeping pace with the times; Secondly, we should treat different opinions scientifically appeared in the process of exploring; Thirdly, we should adhere to the fact that practice is the sole criterion for testing truth in the exploration; Finally, we should pay more attention to the importance of construction of the system of the Party and state.
