Research On Values Of Young Soldiers' Life Objectives

To study on the young soldier' s life goal values in China from psychological persperctive is of great theoretical value and practical significance. It is not only a new topic in the domain of values research but also an important research task that military should face when it carries out ideological and political construction.Based on literature analysis, interview, open survey, this study develops the measurement instrument of young soldiers' life goal values which accords with index of psychometrics, surveys the developmental characteristics of young soldiers' life goal values, and its relation with life accidents and some mental factors such as their personality, achievement goal, subjective well-being. The findings are of great value in the research and education of young soldier' s life goal values.The study is divided into 4 parts, which develop 11 sub-studies on the constituent structure, developmental characteristics of values of young soldiers' life objectives, the differences and similarities of values of life objectives of legionary and regional undergraduates, and related factors influencing values of young soldiers' life objectives. According to research result of each part, the following conclusions are drawn:1. Values of young soldiers' life objectives are multileveled and multidimensional cognitive system made up of 9 first-order factors and 3 second-order factors, which include values of survival objectives, development objectives and relation objectives. Among these, values of survival objectives involve four dimensions: survival needs and satisfaction, living stability and smoothness, leisure and entertainment and freedom, social position and prestige; values of development objectives consist of 3 dimensions: society development and contributions, national prosperity and security, self-development and harmony; and values of relation objectives include 2 dimensions: interpersonal security and satisfaction and family amity and happiness.2. The Questionaire of Values of Young Soldiers' Life Objectives (QVYSLO) has good index mark of psychmetrics, and is suitable to be the measurement instrument of values of our country's young soldiers' life objectives.3. Young soldiers of the time attach all importance to survival objectives, relation objectives and development objectives. The developmental level of values of young soldiers' life objectives as a whole is relatively high.4. Young female soldiers have higher level of request of survival objectives and relation objectives than male soldiers, while in the aspect of values of development objectives (except self-development and harmony), both sides coincide.5. Different army services have no significant difference in terms of values of survival objectives and development objectives, and their sub-dimensions (except self-development and harmony), but have significant difference in values of relation objectives and their sub-dimensions.6. Young soldiers of different positions have significant difference in values of relation objectives and development objectives and their sub-dimensions (except family amity and happiness), having no significant difference in values of survival objectives, but having significant difference in the sub-dimension of leisue, entertainment and freedom.7. Young soldiers of different ages have significant difference in values of relation objectives, the sub-dimension of interpersonal security and satisfaction, and the sub-dimension of survival needs and satisfaction.8. Young soldiers of different length of military service reveal difference of values of their life objectives in aspects of survival objectives, relation objectives, development objectives and their sub-dimensions; in addition, the scores of values of their survival objectives, relation objectives, development objectives, and some corresponding sub-dimensions tend upwards with greater length of military service.9. Young soldiers of different levels of academic qualification have significant difference in values of survival objectives, relation objectives and development objectives and the sub-dimensions (except survival needs and satisfaction, social position and prestige, living stability and smoothness and family amity and happiness).10. Young soldiers with different places of residence show significant difference in values of survival objectives, relation objectives, development objectives and the sub-dimensions; those brought up in different family atmosphere also show significant difference in values of survival objectives, relation objectives and development objectives and the subdimensions (except in the sub-dimensions of survival needs and satisfaction, and social position and prestige); while those with different upbringing styles have no significant difference in their values of survival objectives, relation objectives and the corresponding sub-dimensions, but show significant difference in development objectives and the corresponding sub-dimensions.11. Generally legionary and regional undergraduates' values of life objectives as a whole tend upward, and in terms of the pursuit of life objectives they tend towards multi-variate development; legionary undergraduates attach greater importance to relation objectives and development objectives than regional undergraduates.12. The state of contemporary young soldier' s individuality development is better than that of the youth outside of military. They face with fewer negative life events and can well adapt to the life in military camp. Besides, they have higher achievement motivation and subjectively feel happy.13. Young soldiers' personality have direct influence on their values of life objectives; values of life objectives have direct influence on achievement motives and subjective sense of happiness; life events have neither direct nor indirect influence on values of life objectives, however, personality has direct influence on life accidents.This research is exploratory in our country, thus creative in the following aspects: (1) in terms of the subject investigated, it focuses on young soldiers (soldiers, sergeancy, and students of legionary universities), widening the scope of values study; (2) in terms of content investigated, it constructs and verifies the factor structure of values of young soldiers' life objectives, works out the measurement instrument of values of young soldiers' life objectives, which is against our country's cultural background and of relatively high validity and reliability, and analyzes developmental characteristics of values of young soldiers' life objectives, probes into the relationship between values of young soldiers' life objectives and life accidents and mental factors such as their personality, achievement motive, subjective sense of happiness; (3) in terms of research methods, it adopts comprehensive study, explores the methods combining quantitative and qualitative study to study values of young soldiers' life objectives; (4) in terms of finding, it is a pilot study which reveals developmental characteristics of values of our country's young soldiers' life objectives, finds the relationship between young soldiers' life goal values and related factors, and constructs their correlation model, pertinently analyzes the reasons and proposes educational countermeasures.This study is not only helpful to enrich the study of values, but also of great significance to promoting the construction of socialist harmonious society, reinforcing army's educating young soldiers' outlook on life and values, improving army's cohesive force and fighting capacity, helping young soldier form postitive life goal, adapting to the military life and facilitating young soldiers' success and integrated development.
