Military Politics And Foreign Policy

Indonesia's foreign policy has been the important issue for the scholars who do research on foreign policy and South East Asia studies as Indonesia is the largest nation in South East Asia. The research done before exposes to us that to analyze the Indonesia's foreign policy from the domestic politics point of view is very important. This paper takes the military politics as the variable of the foreign policy of the Indonesia, as the army is most influential and well-organized group in Indonesia and military politics has great influence on Indonesia's foreign policy.The author uses the relative theories on military politics and foreign policy in this paper to analyze the influence of the military politics on its foreign policy and find out that this influence is different in different periods of the development of the Indonesia's politics: in the time of independent war of the Indonesia, the army's leading influence on the foreign policy is brought force by their propositions. In the time of parliamentary democracy, the separation of the army brings its main influence on Indonesia's foreign policy. In the time of Guided democracy, the political competition between the army, president and PKI has dominant influence on the Indonesia's foreign policy.
