There have been momentous changes in relations across the Taiwan Straits in the past half-century: One of the changes is that people who live cross-Strait start to communicate under certain restrictions. The other is the significant turn on the standpoint of Taiwan authorities from supporting"one-China"policy to denying it. The new century brings new hope, esp. after Lian Zhan and Song Chuyu visited the mainland in the spring of 2005, the communication of the people across the Taiwan straight is greatly increased, while the economic and cultural corporations are highly enhanced. However, pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party came into power, leading the cross-Strait relation in a deadlock. Complete"Three Links"which is expected by people of both sides has still not come true. Since China's reunification is a common aspiration of the whole Chinese nation, and China's comprehensive national strength is increasingly reinforced, it's impossible for Taiwan to be separated from the mother country. To the contrary, the economic and cultural communications and corporations across the Strait will be strengthened. But currently, the political deadlock is hard to break and the realization of complete"Three Links"still has a long way to go. The Kuomintang is governing party of Taiwan at present, with a long history and ratherprofound political resources. If the Kuomintang holds"one-China"policy, there will be a positive effect on developing a harmonious relation across the Taiwan Straits. Therefore, based on the previous results preceded by academic circles and under the instruction of dialectical material and conducts historical idealism, this thesis tries to hold the frontier of scientific research and conducts an analysis around"reform"of the Kuomintang, which aims at solving different political issues in different periods of time, after the Kuomintang's retreat to Taiwan. This thesis uses Marxism basic principle, practical and realistic principles, by an analytical, comprehensive, historical, logical methods and the method of combining theory with reality. It analyzes the"reform"in the early 1950s, the"political reform"in the mid-1980s and the"reform"at beginning of the new century. Specifically, it analyzes the political environment, the specific content, the results and the effect of"reform"in different historical periods. Besides, it discusses the impact of"reform"to the political situation in Taiwan and the cross-Strait relations in different periods. It demonstrates historical progress caused by"reform"and at the same time reveals the limitation and disadvantage of the Kuomintang in order to provide a better understanding on the development trace of the Kuomintang and its function on the process of the development of Taiwan's politics."Know the enemy and know yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles with no danger of defeat." After thoroughly grasping the Kuomintang's political development history and Taiwan's situation as a whole, combining with China's political reality and historical task, this thesis explores the theory and practice concerning with"one country, two systems"policy's effect on dealing with Taiwan issue after the regression of Hong Kong and Macau.Based on a detailed analysis of historical facts reformed by the Kuomintang after being retreated to Taiwan from the political view, we can ,through the Kuomintang's complex political phenomenon in Taiwan, accurately understand the Kuomintang's role and its influence in the process of Taiwan's social and political modernization, profoundly realize that the Kuomintang's different policies toward mainland in different historical periods ,further more, provide a convenient bridge for scholars and people in mainland to know the Kuomintang's actual status in Taiwan ,the relationship between the Kuomintang and the people ,and the function of the Kuomintang in the development of cross-Strait relations. The writer believes that the Kuomintang plays an important role in Taiwan's political development process and will be irreplaceable in the peaceful reunification of China in the future.
