The Existence And Development Of Martial Arts In Dengfeng From The Viewpoint Of Cultural Sociology

Along with the market economy reform in China, changes in the social structure of China have taken place, and the Chinese traditional culture that is adaptive to the traditional society has been impacted by the western culture. How to keep the temporal spirit and nationality of the Chinese traditional culture has become China's current social problem. Traditional ethnic sports is an important part of the traditional Chinese culture. Wushu is China's "essence", and is an important representative of Chinese national traditional sports. Shaolin Wushu is our country's intangible cultural heritage and an outstanding representative of the martial arts culture. Shaolin Wushu was generated and has developed in Dengfeng, and is the important component of the martial arts culture of Dengfeng. Under the market economy, Wushu in Dengfeng is closely combining with politics, education, economy, culture and religions, and is on the road of industrialization, marketization and socialization. While faced with the large environment where the national tradition sports is depressing as a whole, and where the western modern sports is prosperous in large and medium-sized cities of China, martial arts is booming in Dengfeng, a regional city. So there must be some reason for its survival and development. Therefore, the existence and development of martial arts in Dengfeng is a typical case in the study of the national traditional sports culture and even of the modern development of Chinese traditional culture. In order to study the modern development of traditional culture, the generation and regular pattern of development of traditional culture as well as its social function, etc. should be made definite on the whole. Cultural sociology, as a branch of sociology, which emphasizes on the integral study of various social and cultural phenomenon from the angle of sociology, is a discipline of the study of the generation, development regularity and social functions of culture. Since martial arts are the Chinese traditional culture essence, cultural sociology theory is naturally the important method of the study of the generation, development regularity and social functions of martial arts culture.With the methods of investigation, interview, participation observation, questionnaire, literature material, etc., this study pays much attention to combining theory and empirical research. From the perspective of cultural sociology, taking the martial arts as part of social system and putting it into the historical and cultural background of Dengfeng, this paper conducts three-dimensional and multi-layered study, reveals its overall history features, explores the origin and evolution of martial arts in Dengfeng from the wider perspectives, and then describes the present development situation, the characteristics and the insufficiency of the contemporary martial arts in Dengfeng. On that basis, using the cultural sociological theory, this paper analyses the social function and the development dynamic of Wushu in Dengfeng, and puts forward some thinking as far as the development of Wushu in Dengfeng and the development of Chinese Wushu.This paper is made up of the introduction, the text, the conclusion and the appendix components. The text has seven parts.This article first introduces the natural and historical cultural background where martial arts exist and develop in Dengfeng. It is thought that martial arts have formed their own cultural tradition in the process of the development of history in Dengfeng society, which is mainly manifested the spirits of simplicity, rigorous work, coexistence of things of a diverse nature, open fusion, being swift to adapt and innovative in the martial arts culture. And the tradition still has enormous influence on the development of contemporary martial arts in Dengfeng. Then from the aspects of social Wushu, school Wushu, athletic martial arts, Shaolin martial arts and the international propagation of Wushu, the paper describes the present development status of Dengfeng martial arts and thinks that the contemporary martial arts show the cultural characteristics of diverse forms, unbalanced development and multiple strength, heavy Central Plains cultural feature, stress on education and emphasis on "Shaolin" brand, and that there exist problems and deficiencies of a declining trend in folk Wushu development, weak martial arts foundation in urban communities, lack of further standard management in martial arts schools and halls, difficult advance for higher education in martial arts, lack of unified planning for the Shaolin temple brand construction and not having formed sound Wushu league.After studying the current development situation of martial arts, this paper provides a deeper analysis of its functions and in the contemporary society of Dengfeng and thinks the functions of martial arts in Dengfeng are embodied in body-building, recreation, education, economy, society, etc., the development dynamic of martial arts is diverse, and mainly includes the external environment of reform and opening-up, privileged location providing a broad space for the development of martial arts in Dengfeng, abundant social capital providing additional thrust, and motive power of spiritual culture and of need of individuals and organizations. Among them, spiritual culture is the core motive power. Under the influence of the external environment of reform and opening-up, traditional culture internalizes the need of individuals and organizations, and then promotes the development of martial arts in Dengfeng through practice.Martial arts in Dengfeng may not stagnate. Facing the changes of society, it must continue to develop, otherwise it will be eliminated. Based on the background, origin, evolution and current development situation of martial arts in Dengfeng, this paper puts forward thoughts on its futher development:Development is the best protection, teenagers are the subject of martial arts culture inheritance, diversification is the development trend of martial arts culture, the Shaolin temple brand construction should be emphasized and the development of martial arts should make a balance between interests of the state and society.The study of martial arts in Dengfeng is a case, but it is an integral part of the Chinese martial arts, and its development regularity will provide reference for the development of Chinese martial arts. This paper puts forward that the future development of Chinese martial arts should emphasize the exploration of multiple functions, the spiritual culture is the core motive power, diversity and marketization is the development trend and that the protection and inheritance of martial arts culture should be strengthened.
