Social stratification or class differentiation have occurred in every corner of social life in current China, and affected all aspects of people'lives. Not only scholars, but also government departments and ordinary people have given attention to this issue. However, researchs on the division and stratification directed towards specific social systems and specific groups are relatively less.Especially, related researchs directed towards increasingly large-scale and increasingly complex scientific institution and science and technology workers are very weak. Facing more and more severe situation of the international competition for talent, when science and technology problems, educational problems and intellectuals problems in China have become increasingly prominent, it is of great significance to investigate social stratification of science and technology workers. This study has conducted a questionnaire survey to science and technology workers in Hunan, Henan and Shanxi, used SPSS to analysis data with contingency table,one-way analysis of variance and multinomial logistic regression, focused on examining three parts, the status stratification of science and technology workers, class features of science and technology workers, factors affecting status attainment of. science and technology workers. In the status stratification, this study describes the stratification of science and technology workers in accordance with various standards (economic status, power status, prestige status and social status). This study mainly measures the economic status of science and technology workers according to personal total income, turns science and technology workers into five strata according to income level, low-income group, middle-income group, middle-income group, upper-income group, high-income group; This study uses the administrative position as a indicator, turns science and technology workers into five strata, no management duties group, primary management duties group (no executive-level), branch-level(vice branch-level) administrative functions group, department-level(vice department-level) administrative functions group, board-level(vice board-level) administrative functions group. This study Selects technology title as a main indicator to judge the level of the status of science and technology workers, turns science and technology workers into five strata,no technology title group, primary technology title group, intermediate technology title group, vice Advanced technology title group, advanced technology title group. This study integrates three indicators, economic status, power status, prestige status, into a new single indicator——social status, uses the composite indicator to reflect the status of science and technology workers. According to the total score of social status, this study turns science and technology workers into five strata, lower classe, middle and lower classe, middle classe, middle and upper classe, upper class. The hierarchical structure of social status of science and technology workers in general is a gyro with a shaft handle, both ends are smaller, the middle is larger. There are significant differences between five classes in social status. In class features, this study analyses the homogeneity of the inner of different classes of science and technology workers from the consumption patterns, social attitudes and class consciousness. Do science and technology workers in the same class pursue similar lifestyles and consumption patterns, tend to consistency of identity, have similar social attitudes and sense of worth, and then forme class consciousness and class culture? The stratification of science and technology workers in the consumption patterns, social attitudes and awareness of the hierarchical levels are not significant. In factors affecting the status attainment, this study probes the influence of natural factors, acquired factors and systematic and structural factors on status attainment of science and technology workers. Gender and age have a significant effect on social status attainment.when science and technology workers were 16 years old their fathers'educational level and whether their fathers are CPC members don't have a significant effect on social status attainment; when science and technology workers were 16 years old their fathers'occupational category and unit level have a significant effect on social status attainment. This shows some natural factors have a significant effect on social status attainment. Whether science and technology workers are CPC members has a significant effect on social status attainment;First degree, last degree and whether studied abroad have a significant effect on social status attainment;Job category has a significant effect on social status attainment; Achievements in scientific research, such as papers, publications, research projects and patents, have a significant effect on social status attainment. This shows acquired factors have a significant effect on social status attainment.Account at age 16 doesn't have a significant effect on social status attainment, and working place have a significant effect on social status attainment;Work unit and unit level have a significant effect on social status attainment. This shows some systematic and structural factors have a significant effect on social status attainment.
