The sedentary and lack of physical activity lifestyle has become a world-renowned public health and social problem. The regular and positive physical activity has both physical and mental health benefits for people that has been confirmed by a lot of experimental studies, but people still remain at the stage of inactivity. Aiming at constructing a more effective predicting and easy-inteventing model on Chinese adults'exercise behavior while simple in order to promote people participation exercise effectively, the present study focuses on the integration of continuum model TPB with the stage model HAPA.Experimental method and survey method were used to collect data. Sedentary adults participated in the following three progressive studies for the contruction of the Integrated Model of Exercise Behavior.Study I:Based on the full sample data (336) and the sub-sample data (190),7 selective models including TPB, HAPA and the integrated models of exercise behavior was examined using the method of structural equation modeling (SEM). The overall goodness-of-fit indices of the models were satisfactory. The results supported that TPB and HAPA could explain exercise behaviors of Chinese adults. It comes out that the Integrated Model of Exercise Behavior could explain the exercise behavior of Chinese adults. Result also gave evidence to the existence of stages in exercise behavior.Study II:This study used polynomial trends analyses and the analyses of variance with post-hoc-contrasts to test the discontinuity pattern and non-linear trends of the HAPA and the integrated model of exercise behavior. The results showed that the HAPA and the Integration Model of Exercise Behavior had emerged the discontinuity pattern, and the ratio of the former (22.2%) lower than the latter (37.5%), but none of them emerged the non-linear trends. Study III:The main purpose was through the longitudinal experimental study to take Stage-matched Interventions in order to examine the stage hypothesis of the Integrated Model of Exercise Behavior. 169 participants who were recruited from the network took part in the intervention of the exercise behavior. The results showed that the level of physical activity of motivation-intervention group and plan-intervention group were significantly higher than the control group, while it did not showed statistical significance between the action-intervention group and the control group. It comes to the conclusions that:(1) The HAPA model could explain the exercise behavior of the adults in the context of Chinese culture effectively.(2) The Integrated Model of Exercise Behavior could explain the exercise behavior intention and exercise behavior of the adults. And this model was more concise than the HAPA model.(3) This results largely supported that the integrated model of exercise behavior was the stage model rather than a pseudo-stage model.(4) This study took the stage-matched exercise interventions based on the Integrated Model of Exercise Behaviors which is supposed to be superior to that of other strategies. This study suggests that it can take Stage-matched Interventions based on the the Integration Model of Exercise Behavior during taking the intervention on the exercise behavior. It needs to establish the correct attitudes and subjective norms and increase the action self-efficacy in the nonintention stage; it needs to emphasize the execution of plans and the development of the coping strategies in intention stage.
