Based on the field research in a private school, this dissertation try to point out how the school-life has been socially constructed, and what it means to "education". Here "school-life" does not include curriculum and teaching in school.hi the social context, the school is constructed and constrained by many kinds of social forces. Economic forces symbolized by money, political forces dominated by state power, cultural forces represented by symbol and value, all participate in the running of the school. Inside the school, a relatively close "social space" is formed, so that the "disciplinary power" can be put into practice, and the normalized order can be established. The normalized order is established by a sort of strategies and technologies, and it has close relationship with the idea and habitus of the teachers(include the school leaders and the common teachers).The influences on the school by exterior society can be looked as real forces and resources. They affect the social reality of school life by the way of structuration, institutation, and objectivitation. The social construction of school life does not only mean the determination of the exterior social forces to the school reality, but also mean the active construction of the school itself and the teachers. It is especially embodied in the establishment of the normalize order in the school.The structure and system of school-life are the main forces that constrain or determine the status of school education, hi the school field, we can feel the structural constraint. Once it formed, it will become a regulative forces, and will has a strong inertia. It is the real situation that the teachers and students have to burden. But, since the school-life is socially constructed, it may be desstructed or reconstructed. And only in this way, possible education can be turned to reality, and the school will full with hope. Directed by educational ideal, the critical reflection and freedom consciousness of the actors in the school is stealthily leading the change of the school-life.
