Research On Theory And Practice Of School-based Curriculum Development In Chinese Elementary And Middle Schools

'Fundamental educational reform act' indicates that the new national curriculum of physical education should change the high center-controlled curricula management and implement the three-level curriculum management, which is divided into national, local and school levels, in order to improve the curriculum adaptability in the context of local educational authority, school, and students. In this context it is essential to embark a theoretical and practical research on the school-based curriculum development. As an important part of fundamental education curriculum, the curriculum of physical education should face with the challenge of the new educational reform. Therefore the research on the school-based curriculum development has the specific significance on theoretical and practical perspective.In this research several general social investigation methods have been adopted, which include secondary research, questionnaire investigation, field work research, case study. Based on a fair of research data, several important results can be concluded in this research as the bellows:The school-based curriculum can be seen as all the curriculum which are designed and developed to implement the purposes of physical education and health PE curriculum by the school teachers based on the analysis and assessment of the school students' sport need in the context of the sport facilities of the local community and schools.School-based curriculum development can be understood as a set of development strategy which are designed and developed by schools according to the national educational policies in order to implement the purposes of physical education and health PE curriculum based on the specific characteristics of schools in the context of the sport facilities of the local community and schools.This research discovered that most of PE teachers have the positive attitudes towards the school-based development; In the view of the teachers the domain factors which impact on the school-based curriculum development is the support and assistance of the head teachers, and their multiple competence; the investigation data indicates that school-based curriculum development contributes to the development of students' sport interest, PE teachers' conceptual transfer, increasing the fame of schools. However, the negative factors for school-based curriculum development should also be drawn on, such as the teachers' intensification, the lack of knowledge and skills of school-based curriculum development, the lack of sport facility, the lack of necessary policy support.This research discovered that there exist five domain school-based curriculum development pattern as bellows: the combination of required subject and selected subject, the traditional Chinese sports items, the modern sports activity, the interval sport activity, the implementation of sports facility in the local community. According to the limitation of the curriculum model of Chinese elementary and middle schools, this research selected and analyzed several curriculum teaching pattern which might represents the current national curriculum development. These teaching cases indicated the basic theory of the new curriculum reform in China, but also show the specific local characteristics. Further, the cases also embodied the scientific and strict characteristics and provided a rich literature for the further research on the curriculum development. The domain achievements which Chinese curriculum development can be concluded as the follows: the curriculum development improves the whole level of PE and health curriculum in China; contributes to the development of PE initial teaching, the whole level of students' physical fitness. Also curriculum development created a fair number of school-based PE and health curriculum pattern with the specific characteristics, and enrich the literature recourses of the PE and health curriculum research in general.
