The standard of science curriculum of junior middle school is reformed once every 10 years on the whole in Japan. The Ministry of Education of Japan carried on a new reform of standard of science curriculum of junior middle school in 1998. This is the reform for the sixth time after World War II, which have reflected the basic idea, position and method facing Japanese junior middle school science curriculum in 21st century. According to the new standard of science curriculum, five professional non-governmental textbook publishing companies have designed and worked out five science textbooks for junior middle school respectively. These five were authorized and passed in 2001.In 2003, they were published and come into operation formally. The author put emphasis on the " new science " (Tokyo book publishing Corporation), " junior middle school science " (big Japanese books publishing Corporation) and " middle school science "(education publishing Corporation) among the five science textbooks, and adopted historical research approach, text analytic approach, document approach and quantitative research approach, etc., and attempted to make a further study on the design of the science textbook of junior middle school of Japan from the historical development of the standard of science curriculum and textbook, form structure design of the science textbook, content structure design of the science textbook, STS education of the science textbook , and the scientific concept of the science textbook in order to reveal the generality that exists in the design of junior middle school science textbook in Japan. This paper intends to be a previous work of the science textbook compare between China and Japan.An introduction and five following chapters form this paper. There is a relationship between these five chapters. Chapter one is the historical foundation of understanding relevant content in other chapters. The main content of the paper is chapter two, chapter three and chapter four. Chapter five deepens and summarizes the content of the whole paper from the angle of scientific view.The part of the introduction has explained the cause and meaning of the selected title at first, and then explained the meaning that the science textbook studies and current situation. At last it represented the research frame and research approach of the paper.The author has discussed the following three questions in Chapter one " historical investigation of the standard of science curriculum and textbook ". Firstly, the author discusses the first five reforms of the standard of science curriculum to the junior middle school of Japan after World War II from the angle of historical view. In order to establish a solid foundation for understanding the new standard of science curriculum dynamically and historically, the author tries to clarify and grasp the science course idea and developmental background from the goal and the content of the science curriculum of junior middle school in Japan. Secondly, the author makes a thorough analysis of the basic idea, the goal and the content of the standard of science curriculum of 1998 in order to define the latest basic idea of science curriculum in Japanese junior middle school in the 21st century. Finally, the author forms two views from the system and content of the textbook, then carries on a historical investigation on science textbook of Japanese junior middle school after World War II from these two views, in order to define the basic train of its development. Undoubtedly, this part is very essential for us to understand the essence of thescience textbook using in junior middle school of Japan now.Chapter two " the study on the form structural design of the science textbook " discusses the following two problems. Firstly, the paper clarifies the form elements, content and basic function separately by analysing the form structural design of the three textbooks, and it depicts the basic image of the science textbook of junior middle school of Japan on the form structural design roughly.
