Chinese Universities System Settings Change

According to the time, based on an abundance of firsthand data and institution analysis theory ,this dissertation studies the historical changing of the setting of colleges and universities in China since Late Qing Dynasty, summarizes its characteristics, analyses its success and failure, as well as provides the approach through which the setting of colleges and universities can be institutionalized with major setting event of colleges and universities as the sign.The institutionalization of the setting of colleges and universities in China goes through the following four stages since Late Qing Dynasty, namely, the establishment of institution in Late Qing Dynasty, the reiteration of institution during the Early Republic of China, the gradual maturity of institution during the Late Republic of China and the establishment, subversion, reestablishment of institution during the People's Republic of China. From the process of institutionalization of higher education in China during the previous one hundred years or so, conclusion can be drawn as follows:The setting institution of colleges and universities has the character of exogenesis,rational design and politics-oriented from the origin. As far as the process of setting institutionalization of colleges and universities is concerned, the course is tortuous after the interest groups pull through the conflict and coordination of multiple game. From the whole process of development of institutionalization, a lot of historical characteristic can be seen, such as repetitious division and combination of colleges and universities, dispute of independency and dependency of normal colleges and universities,the institution of key universities, the principle of location on partition, the conflict of government departments that manage colleges and universities ,the vicissitude of private colleges and universities, the registration of Christian Colleges and Universities, etc. In terms of the characteristic of institution of setting of colleges and universities, the change of institution is radical, the orientation of institution is full of instrumentalism, the origin of institution is full of rational design , idealism and mark of imitation, the institution is sometimes flexible, but stiff at times. The inheriting of institution is not only breaking but also continuity. There are also institution mythology and institution nothingness on the setting of colleges and universities.The change of the setting of colleges and universities makes it clear that the current setting way of colleges and universities has its historical source and historical imprint. So we must pay attention to the historical continuity on the setting of colleges and universities. At the same time, it shows that the setting of colleges and universities need institution, especially the continuous, general, opening,indigenous institution. We should also pay attention to the institution that is the result of interactive game. We also should be alert to the conceit of rational design and prevent the institution mythology and institution nothingness.
