Post-modern Sports Curriculum Studies

"Postmodern" trends have swept across many realms, including architecture, literature & art, social politics, economy and culture & education. Some scholars in P.E. & sports and P.E. curriculum realms have attempted to do their research work from the angle of "postmodern", But most of the research is to discuss "postmodern" on "postmodern", lacking of a total understanding to it.Postmodern tends to deconstruct the science-technology rationalism existing everywhere in the modem society, because it's dissatisfied with the modem society which takes science and technology for all, pays all its attention to materials without caring for people. Postmodern shows a kind of cherish of the past, even the primitive state. It leads to toleration, admits and respects people's libidos, and worships free development of individuals; it earnestly hopes for the harmony between human and nature. We surely can't accept postmodern wholly without criticizing, yet we have to admit that the "scientific views of development"—focusing on people, continuous and wholly harmonious development, is just what postmodern promotes and worships. There are many different groups of thoughts in "postmodern", this thesis believes that postmodern does not only deconstructs or destroys, but also constructs and creates by putting postmodern, especially constructive postmodern in order, and tries to do some preliminary postmodern construction to the P.E. curriculum in the way of culture-study on the base of the chief source of "postmodern", especially constructive postmodern thoughts.Both modem Physical education & sports and P.E. curriculum display the control to human beings from body to spirit to some degree. They reflect the society, tool and utility value-orientation. Postmodern physical education & sports and P.E. curriculum focus on individuals, and turn the attention from knowledge and skills to human beings. Postmodern P.E. curriculum turns it's concerning eyes from group to individuals, turns it's attention from the remote future to the present, appeals to the people that we should pay some of our attention to the individuals' experience at present. Postmodern P.E. curriculum thinks highly of and respects the individuals' P.E. & sports value-orientation and selections, and lays stress on the richness of P.E. curriculum content to ensure that the individuals have rights to make their own selections. Postmodern P.E. curriculum displays strong human concern, thinking highly of the individual value-orientation, especially of the weak-powered groups and their members.
