Doctoral Thesis Title: Elementary Discussion on Inappropriate Consumption and Social Problems.Consumption is the process that people consume material goods in the satisfaction of material and cultural life needs. It is one of the links in the social reproduction process and an absolutely necessary condition for people's subsistence and their recovery of labor force. The recovery of people's labor force is a precondition to ensure the continuation of the production process. Production determines consumption. It provides consumption with objects, determines the consumption mode and arouses people's new consumption needs; moreover, consumption influences production in reverse, it promotes or counteracts the development of production. Consumption in a broad sense also includes productive consumption, which belongs to production itself. The sociology of consumption is a branch subject of sociology that studies the living consumption behavior and the consumption mode of the individual, the colony and the society as well as the relations between consumption and economy, consumption and politics, consumption and society and consumption and culture. Consumption is a domain that contains numerous subjects such as economics, sociology, psychology, science of marketing, science of management and anthropology etc. These subjects have all conducted researches on consumption with their own methodology and theory. As a result, a branch subject system has been formed. Besides, the sociology of consumption also closely relates with economics, it is generally regarded as a marginal subject between sociology and economics. Its research mainly focuses on living consumption that outspreads from three aspects: individual, colony and society.People generally understand "consumption" as spending money inpurchasing living articles, production articles, cultural articles and services. Inappropriate consumption refers to spending money falsely or the waste of materials. Concretely speaking, the purchase of pirates or commodities against the protection of environment or commodities which are bad for health or services which breaches the harmony of the society etc., they all belong to the inappropriate consumption or false consumption or mistaken consumption or consumption trap. The innovative point of my thesis is to have a synthesized research on inappropriate consumption and social problems. Inappropriate consumption causes social problems. On the contrary, some social problems incite inappropriate consumption. Therefore, Building up a correct value of consumption and forming a reasonable consumption environment and consumption behavior will be helpful in solving some social problems. The main research method for sociology of consumption is empirical research method. As a Korean student, I gave abundance of examples to demonstrate my point of view. This is because the Chinese government always inspires the policy of being practical and realistic and calls for theories summing up from practices. Furthermore, I also adopted the method of documentation and the method of social investigation (field work) of ethnology. In some specific chapters, I introduced cultural comparative method. There are seven chapters in my thesis.Chapter 1 is Introduction in which the motivation of choosing this thesis title, its theoretical basis and its main research methods are given.Chapter 2 is Food Consumption and Food Security. In this chapter, I mainly discussed the social belly-worship and prodigality; further strengthening food security supervision and the relationship between food security and environment, food security and people's health were also talked about.Chapter 3 is Medical Care Consumption and the Social Problems. This chapter discussed the tension between doctors and patients, the high cost of medical treatment, the inside story of medical accidents, the referable foreign doctor's attitude and the mis-consumption of the health products.Chapter 4 is Educational Consumption and Scholastic Consumption. The discussion in this chapter was mainly focused on the large educational expenses and prodigality. Also, The Scholastic mis-consumption that gives an unbearable burden to the students' parents and the investigation and analysis of the students were also unavoidably discussed.Chapter 5 is Gambling Consumption Harmed the Society. This chapter talked about the phenomena of bureaucratic gambling, civilian gambling and family gambling. A sociological analysis of gambling was also given.Chapter 6 is Corruption Consumption Destroys the Nation. The power-for-money deal and bribe, the prodigality of business consumption, the civilian hatred of corruption and the governmental anti-corruption combat for building a clean government were all discussed in this chapter.Chapter 7 is Correction of the Consumption Concept and the Acceleration of Forming a Harmonious Society. The aim of this chapter is to give suggestions on solving social problems caused by inappropriate consumption, such as no expense for possible corruption, no expense on pirates, uncompromising rejection on non-environmental products, etc. Consumers were also suggested in having the consciousness to protect their lawful rights and interests.
