Since new course reform in basic education was carried out, English teaching in elementary schools has been available throughout the whole country. What's more, in 2005, national modern distance education project in elementary schools and middle schools of countryside has begun to equip those schools with television sets, satellite receiver systems, computer classrooms, disks, etc. Therefore, 81,420,000 countryside pupils'demand for good education and educational resources will be nearly satisfied.With the informationization level of school education increased continuously, however, teaching level has not been promoted correspondently by a wide margin. There exists the fact that the results of English teaching in elementary schools are not satisfactory both in town schools which have English teaching for a certain time and in the countryside schools starting English teaching later. Compared with other subjects, there is a much larger gap between English teaching in countryside and that in town. Promoting English teaching in elementary schools of countryside lies in not only improving teaching conditions, but enhancing English teachers'quality which means teachers can teach with the help of advanced teaching theories and adopt suitable teaching strategies to conduct multimedia teaching.The study is based on the sub-study"On Strategies of Multimedia English Teaching in Elementary Schools with the Background of'National Modern Distance Education Project'"which is a part of the key research of national educational science"Ten Five"plan—"Study on Creative Experiments of Basic Education Leapfrogging Development"(called"Leapfrogging Experiment"for short in the following parts). The author has had researches in the town of Shawang, Shiqiao and Shilou in Panyu Area in the city of Guangzhou.Although some people have studied multimedia teaching at home and abroad, my study is concentrated on the strategies of multimedia English teaching in elementary schools of countryside. The paper studies multimedia environment supported by middle-leveled technology (such as computer added with projector or television set, projector added with public computer labs), which is the common teaching environment in most countryside schools in China in future. So the result of this study is characterized with being representative and common. On the contrary, the former studies have focused on advanced technology teaching environment (web environment), which are farsighted but less possible to be applied. There are the original ideas as follows:1. Directed against speaking and listening intercommunication teaching, the most important part of English teaching, the author studies the strategies of speaking and listening intercommunication teaching with verbal communication and as the core and then forms the independent system of a set of strategies, including two parts: the strategy of creating speaking and listening communicative teaching environment and of designing process.2. In the process of practicing speaking and listening intercommunication teaching, the author has noticed that there are many factors of class supervision affecting the result of speaking and listening intercommunication teaching under the multimedia background. This paper shows the results will be good if the teachers implement some strategies of class supervision closely connected with speaking and listening intercommunication strategies together with speaking and listening intercommunication strategies.3. The author has had some experiments in countryside schools to carry out difference teaching aimed at slow students arising in multimedia teaching environment and then summarized the strategies of implementing difference teaching in countryside elementary schools in detail. At the same time, the author has found that if teachers fully understand different students'characteristics, they will be able to organize correspondent difference teaching to improve most slow students'study.From the 3 points mentioned above, it comes to a conclusion that speaking and listening teaching intercommunication strategies, strategies of supervision of teaching in class and difference teaching strategies form a system of multimedia English teaching strategies in elementary schools, which is meaningful to the studies of theories and methods of multimedia English teaching in terms of creativity and practice.It is no doubt that studies on strategies of multimedia English teaching in elementary schools is still immature. Due to restrictive conditions, there exist some weaknesses in this study. Based on the achievements, the author has rethought profoundly the weakness of the study at the end of the paper and made clear the orientation of later study and problems which need solving.
