Fukien Christian University (F.C.U) was established jointly by four Christian Churches in Fukien. During those forty years (1911—1951 ), F.C.U experienced four stages of running university in the following places. Guan-yin-jing in Cang-shan district, Fuzhou, Kui-qi in Fuzhou, Shao- wu in Fukien and the restoration of university in Kui-qi in Fuzhou, finally she was changed into a national higher educational institute with Chinese Characteristics. The whole story of the development of F.C.U was successively written by five presidents of which Mr Lin Jing Yun was respresentative, F.C.U took western universities as model, establishing the efficient management system of university, setting up the comprehensive organizational structure of schools and departments, cultivating a large batch of professional talented graduates, gaining great and active response of society and earning the agreement of Fukien's society and Christian Churches in China.F.C.U took the education of the personal character as fundamental goals of running university, took teaching and science research as the bases of running university and took serving society as the light of education. Not only was the educational model of philanthropy, devotion and service greatly developed, creating healthy, harmonious and upward university spirit, but also she took seeking truth from facts as educational belief, carrying out the research of higher learning, establishing the university spirit of adjusting to society, serving the people, the talented graduates cultivated by this model of running the university were a sum of valuable wealth contributed to society by F.C.U. At present, our higher education institutes can use it for important and historical reference in the course of the reform of higher education in China.The process of the development of F.C.U in Fukien was the one of changing the religious education as the main into worldly education, as weU as changing Christian culture spread in China into the exchange between Chinese culture and western culture, also it was the process of Christianization coordinated with Chinese characteristics. This process not only associated eastern and western society with the campus of university and neighbouring districts, but also it made F.C.U coordinate eastern and western culture with educational contents of university and the advanced cause of serving the mankind. Therefore, F.C.U was not only an educational organs which made historical contributions to contemporary and modern education in Fukien, even in China, but also she was a garden of coordinating Chinese culture with western culture, promoting the China's social development and the progress of human society.
