The central concept of this research is form. This research unfolds firmly revolving around four questions, what is the form of adult higher education, why need to transform, transform what, how to transform, and makes a systemic and deep study on the actual foundation, the theoretical basis, the directive goal, the main category and the specific urge tactic of adult higher education's transformation in china. The conclusions are listed as follow:First, it is necessary that the adult higher education exist in china. The mergence of some adult colleges which were set up independently just means that the certain forms of schools of adult higher education have varied. Completely bending the adult higher education into ordinary higher education doesn't fit our country's condition. Replacing the adult higher education with the tertiary vocational and technical education is more contrary to the characteristic of adult higher education----variety. Secondly, the adult higher education exists as different kinds of forms. It can be divided into three forms, the academic-oriented form, the profession-oriented form, and the learn-oriented form according to the differences of value orientations and the reality of adult higher education's development in china.Thirdly, the development of adult higher education's form in china mainly experienced four basic phases, the embryonic form period before the foundation of PRC, the forming period from the foundation of PRC to 1976, the formed period from 1977 to 1986 and the transformation transition period from 1987 to present.Fourthly, at present, the adult higher education in china is facing the difficult task of full-scale transformation. Catering to the demand of social transformation, promoting the development of adults, and practicing the idea of life-long education are the only correct choice to promote the constant and healthy development of adult higher education in china. The transformation of adult higher education in our country should regard the transforming into the learn-oriented form as the direction and the final ideal, regard the transforming into the profession-oriented form as the necessary step and the key point at present, and via the profession-oriented form, the intermediary and transition, change into the learn-oriented form at last.Fifthly, the transformation of adult higher education in china is a total revolution and a change in essence in the process of the development of adult higher education and makes the adult higher education get a new and relatively stable existence way. It is a systematic project and needs to reform overall on the aspects of the change of ideas, the innovation of institutions, the adjustment of structures, and the improvement of qualities, etc.Finally, transformation is a complicated process which is full of contradictions. There are motive power which promotes the transformation and the obstruction which opposes the transformation in it. They all exist in certain field together. Transformation is a game process which comes from the mutual reaction and mutual effect between these two kinds of powers. In regard to the choice of promotion strategies, we should pay attention to learning oriented organization, marketization of mechanism, informatization of means, legalization of assurance, and regularization of operation.
