When human society comes into an information explosion age, the middle school students must have adequate media literacy in order to attain and utilize the information for their own development effectively. To cultivate the media literacy of middle school students attracts great attention of scholars. But not much scholarly attention was paid to the family factor which influences young students' media literacy. Attention must be paid to the influence of family to middle school students' media literacy when schools have not carried out large scale media literacy education is the current circumstance. This article is to research the possible family factors affecting middle school students' media literacy in view of socialization, and put forward some pointed suggestions for cultivating the middle school students' media literacy better in families, which based on the first hand practical data.In the goal of research, the research was carried out in questionnaire survey of 614 students from four middle schools in their first or fourth year, as well as their parents. Based on both qualitative conversation analysis and quantitative analysis, microscopically analyzed the concrete process of family factors influencing media literacy of middle school students, this research finds out:Firstly, social economy background of the family influenced level of middle school students' media literacy. The social economy background has no obvious direct influence on every dimension of middle school students' media literacy, but in positive correlation of Internet skill and Internet information application ability. Social economy background influences indirectly middle school students' media literacy through influence on the family communication environment: the better family media circumstances, the higher network skills of middle school students and more frequent media participation. In the view of family communication pattern, pluralistic family and consensual family which emphasize concept-oriented communication are more beneficial to improvement of middle school students' media literacy than concept-oriented communication neglected family and protection family. The more parents are willing to acquire politics and culture news on media and use media in order for information intention, the higher media literacy children may have than others.Secondly, media literacy differences caused by structural factors like family social economy background and communication environment will be passed over in and between generations. The society constructive power is strong: The differences of traditional media literacy inside the generation will find their way into the internet media literacy. Media literacy differences in the older generation may reappear in the younger generation, in other words, the differences remain across generations. Media conceptions like information quest motivation, perceptions of media Cost and benefits, social utility motivation and content diversity will have influence on the younger generation. It is difficult for Individual media utilization to change the coherence between generations. Quality school education can improve the offsprings' media literacy.Thirdly, this research is to suggest that reverse education should be encouraged to improve the older' media literacy, which could be a possible direction for solutions to attenuate or relieve the family media conflicts. If the older has strong will of reverse education and pleasantness in the process, reverse education will be convenient and it will help to improve both the older' and the offsprings' media literacy.Lastly, this research gives proposals to decrease differences in and between generations in order to implement media literacy education: family members should have modern family media education idea, which include having clear education goal, renewing education idea, parents improving socialization degree, nurturing family culture atmosphere and sharing the web and TV-using experience between generations.
