The Impact Of Media Literacy On The Socialization Of Migrant Children

Since 90 s of the last century,along with the acceleration of modernization and urbanization,floating population present family flow pattern from the single flow,and the migrant children increase rapidly.They do not have the registered residence in the city which they live and they have to change their dwelling place frequently because of the work of their parents.So they are facing a series of problems in the process of their growth.Based on developmental psychology,family,school,peers and the mass media are the four major influence factors in the process of their growth.The advent of the information society makes the influence from the media become more and more great,especially on the migrant children.Because of the particularity and variables of their living conditions,the influence from family,school,and peers is not stable or even in a certain degree of loss,and the mass media fills the seats unduly.The resulting problems deserve attention.This paper makes migrant children as the research object.It counts and analyses part of the migrant children samples in Ji'nan City,Shandong Province by the method of questionnaire,interview and statistical analysis to answer three questions : Are migrant children?s level of media literacy and socialization different from the city children?s ? Do migrant children have special cognitive structure and cognitive style in the cognitive process of media affected by mobility ? What's the correlation between migrant children's media literacy and their socialization?This paper is divided into six parts.The introduction part will introduce the origin and value of the research topic,define the concepts of "media literacy" "migrant children" and "socialization" strictly,elaborate the related research on this topic at home and abroad,and describe the research methods and innovation briefly.The first chapter will present investigation results based on SPSS data analysis objectively,including the social demographic characteristics and the level of media literacy and socialization of the participants by comparing with the city children.The second charter will start from the living conditions of the migrantchildren,then it will introduce their situation of the identity to explore the characteristic of their media cognition.In addition,this part will study the correlation between the flowing situation and their media cognition by correlation analysis.The third charter will analyse how the migrant children's media literacy influence their socialization.This part will firstly analyse the impacts on migrant children's socialization by demographic factors,then control these factors and find the inner mechanism of the influence on their socialization by their media literacy through inpartial correlation.Through analysis,the author find that the level of the media literacy plays an important role on the progress of the migrant children 's socialization.The higher level of media literacy is better to get rid of loneliness and inferiority complex and develop a positive character,is beneficial to mastering social norms and adapting to city life,is helpful for the construction of self identity and integration into city life,and is good for migrant children to build up true value and develop pro-social behavior.Based on the analysis results in the third chapter,the fourth chapter will study what media path can family,school,media,government and other social organization take to make the progress of the socialization of migrant children smooth.The study find that these five subjects should share responsibility and bring into play the power of unity in order to promote the smooth progress of migrant children's socialization.The fifth chapter will sum up the conclusions,point out the deficiencies and look into the future of the research direction.By presenting the migrant children's media literacy and their socialization process situation,the characteristic of their media cognition affected by their flowing situation and the influence on their socialization by their media literacy,discussing the media path to promote the smooth progress of migrant children's socialization,this paper will provide theoretical support for the realization of media rights of the vulnerable groups.This is the significance of this study.
