The objective of this study was to investigate the association of the polymorphisms of the androgen receptor(AR),sex hormone binding globulin(SHBG) and steroidogenic acute regulatory protein(StAR) with aerobic ability. Two study methods was used. One was Case-control.It was used to find the association of those genes with excellent aerobic ability in male and female respectively by investigation the distribution of (CAG)n repeat polymorphism in the exon 1 of AR gene,(TAAAA)n repeat polymorphism in the promoter of SHBG gene, and SNPs in the promoter of StAR gene in 123 elite long-distance runners and 206 undergraduates, both of them from Chinese Han nationality, through STR-genescan and technical methods. The other was Cross-sectional associations study method. It was used to find the association of those genes with training effect of aerobic endurance by investigation the relationship of those gene polymorphims with related variables of aerobic endurance, including body composition, aerobic endurane phenotype, structure and function of left ventricle before and after 18-week endurance training in 102 soldiers from North China Han nationality. The major results and conclusions were as follows:1.The distribution frequency of AR(CAG)n≤20 and 21repeat alleles was significantly higher in female athletes than in female controls. And 20 repeat alleles was significantly higher in all female athletes. According to the shorter allele in(CAG)n genotype, the distribution frequency of≤20 repeat was significantly higher in female athletes. It suggested that the≤20(CAG)n repeat allele, especially in shorter allele of a genotype, has an association with female aerobic ability and can be used as the molecular genetic marker for selecting elite female long-distance runners. 2.After endurance training, increase range of 50w-△SⅤ和△SⅥwas significantly higher in carriers with both alleles≤22 and 23 repeat than those in carriers with>22 and 23 repeat respectively;increase range of 150w-△SⅤ和△SⅥwas significantly higher in carriers with both alleles≤21 repeat than those in carriers with>21 repeat.3.In the SHBG(TAAAA)n repeat polymorphism, the distribution frequency of genotype with both alleles≥7 and≥8 repeat was significantly higher in male athletes than those in male controls respectively;the distribution frequency of≥7 repeat allele was aslo signigicantly higher in male athletes. And the distribution frequency of shorter allele in genotype existed significant difference between male athletes and male controls. It suggested that≥7(TAAAA)n repeat allele, especially in shorter allele of a genotype, has an association with male excellent aerobic ability, and can be used as the molecular genetic marker for selecting elite male long-distance runners.4.After endurance training, the increase extent of 150w-△SⅤ,△SⅥ,△CO and△COI existed 6/6>6/X>No6,and the increase extent of 100w-△SⅤand△SⅥwere significantly higher in carriers with No8 repeat than in carriers with(TAAAA)8 allele.5.The distribution frequency of these three SNPs in the promotor of StAR gene were not observed significant difference between athletes and controls, that suggested these three SNPs in the promotor of StAR gene is not association with excellent aerobic ability. Also,it were not observed association with aerobic endurancet training sensitivity.
