China is the timber producing, consuming and trading power of the world, timber processing industry has become the important industry for national economic development. Timber processing industrial clusters in Shandong Province are developing rapidly, and showing the obvious scale economic effect, but their development is still in the low-end of industrial value chain, and advantages of clusters haven't been played effectively. In the context of economic globalization, industrial clusters have become the major force for regional economic development and competitiveness enhancement, therefore, in current more and more competitive situation for international and domestic timber processing industry, to strengthen the research on developing motivations and economic effects of timber processing industrial clusters in Shandong Province, and to promote clusters to develop towards industrial high value chain, has become the problem urgent to be settled. Based on this, by making reference to cluster development theory, regional economy theory, industrial economy theory, system theory and innovation theory, and adopting multiple research methods of combining theoretical analysis with empirical research and dynamic ananlysis with static analysis, this thesis made comprehensive and deep exploration on developing motivations and economic effects of wood processing industrial clusters in Shandong Province, so as to provide beneficial reference to clusters'deeper development. This study mainly made the following works:Firstly, based on sorting out the relevant literatures and inductively analyzing numerous statistic data and survey information, the thesis comprehensively and deeply analyzed the industrial status and agglomeration status of timber processing industrial clusters in Shandong Province, thus it concluded obstacles to further development of clusters. Secondly, drawn on clusters' life cycle theory, based on the deduction and induction of the dominant dynamic mechanism in clusters' different developing stages, and combined with questionnaire survey results, the study constructed motivation model of clusters' development, then used statistical tool of Spss to make factor analysis test. Thirdly, the study constructed the analytical frame for clusters' economic effects structure, further analyzed its operating mechanism, and made economic benefits assessment and regression test; on this basis, it adopted statistical tool of Eviews to make further study, which included using H-P filtering method and ADF unit root test to make stationarity process and test on data, using Granger causality test method to verify two-way interaction between clusters'level and economic growth, using impulse response function curve based on VAR simulation to analyze their impact response characteristics, and making variance decomposition analysis based on VAR (2) and progressive analytical method to deeply verify their respective roles in the interaction. Finally, by using principle of systematic dynamics and modeling tool of Vensim, the study chose 11 causality feedback loops reflecting motivations and effects, constructed systematic dynamics model for clusters' developing motivations and economic effects, and made the simulation analysis on the intrinsic association and the affecting mechanism, thus made deep explanation on the most effective ways for developing motivations to role in economic effects.Based on these above-mentioned research works, we draw the following main conclusions: The economic effects of timber processing industrial clusters in Shandong Province have been highlighted, but not yet fully realized; the enterprises'own development and the clusters' industry-government-university cooperative innovation of timber processing industry are the key motivations to promote clusters to develop deeply, and are also key elements to encourage clusters to effectively exert economic effects; and the most effective path to fully realize economic effects is that, guided by clusters' scientific developing view, reasonably implements industrial policies of promoting timber processing enterprises' development and clusters' triple-helix cooperative innovation. Meanwhile, the thesis has made some of the following innovations:The thesis's deep research on unique perspective of developing motivations and economic effects has broadened vision of theoretical study; the innovative study of inherin mechanism for clusters' development in different stages has enriched and completed contents of clusters research; and the construction and simulation of systematic dynamics model for motivations and effects has completed and developed research methods of clusters.
