A Study On ASEAN's Economic Diplomacy

Economic diplomacy nowadays plays a more and more active role in international relations and has a greater effect in enhancing the development of international economy, regional economy and economies of all nations. The ASEAN is an international organization of economic cooperation in the region. The conduct of the ASEAN's economic diplomacy started early, results in significant effect with its unique feature, and provides fruitful experience through practice. For the sake of studying and learning this experience, the author considers that it is necessary to make a complete study on ASEAN's economic diplomacy, and chooses such research topic.The paper consists of three parts. The first part is an introduction that mainly clarifies the purpose and significance of doing this research, and that presents not only the present situation and future direction of the research topic, but also the scope and basic contents of the research topic. Besides, this part explains the theories and methods used in doing this research.As the main body of the paper, the second part is composed of three chapters. The first chapter gives a brief introduction and analysis on the topic of economic diplomacy and its relevant theories. The second chapter discusses the conduct of economic diplomacy in international society. It analyses the economic diplomacy of Japan and the USA, the two pioneers and beneficiaries through making use of economic diplomacy. More and more, it researches the economic diplomacy of inter-governmental economic organizations, and sums up the experience of the conduct of international economic diplomacy and concludes the general rule generated from the research. The third chapter is the core of the paper. First of all, it points out that the ASEAN is, in essence, a regionally inter-governmental economic organization, which is an important member of the international society. Besides, it indicates the origin and development of the ASEAN's economic diplomacy. Moreover, it lists its main effect and then studies its chief features. At last, it sums up the successful experience of the ASEAN's economic diplomacy.The last part gives a conclusion. Based on the research, it definitely indicates some revelations for China, which are concluded from the conduct of economic diplomacy in international society, particularly of the ASEAN's economic diplomacy. Meanwhile, it puts forward some noteworthy problems for further study on this topic.
