Mining is a basic industry of national economy. It occupies a decisive position in the economy and society development. Therefore, mining industry must firstly realize sustainable development in putting the integral sustainable development strategy of a country into effect.The study on the sustainable development of mining is imperative. Firstly, the paper has defined the conception of mining and deeply analyzed its basic feature. Afterwards, based on the studies of other scholars, the paper has deeply discussed the conception and basic key elements of the sustainable development of mining. It has given a definition, which accord with the feature of mining and provide with maneuverability, and expatiated the connotations of the conception. On the base of the general sustainable development theories, it has analyzed the essential of the sustainable development ability of mining, studied the conception and mode of collocating minimal resources equitably between generations of human. Furthermore, a mathematical model has been established for analyzed the probability and necessary condition of the collocating.The paper holds that ecological mining is an important mode andnecessary approach for realizing the sustainable development of mining and the ecological mining theory is one of the basic theories of the sustainable development of mining. It has relatively deeply researched the theoretical basis, conceptual meaning, system structure, technique and tactics and Input-output model of ecological mining. A foundation has laid for the actual implement of the strategy of ecological mining.The evaluation for the sustainable development of mining is the basis of putting the strategy of sustainable development into effect. Therefore, the paper uses a lot of page to study the evaluation theories, methods and models for the sustainable development of mining. Firstly, it has deeply discussed the meaning, system structure, relativity, methods and procedure. The paper holds that both static and dynamic evaluation should be contained in the evaluation for the sustainable development of mining. After that, the paper has studied the dynamic evaluating models for the sustainable development of mining. Some models based on Grey System Theories for evaluating the trend and harmony of mining development and other models for evaluating the relativity between the developments in an area mining and the minimal resources import or export have been established.At the end of the paper, the sustainable development status of the nonferrous metal mining of China has been evaluated as an example. We have obtained a conclusion that the nonferrous metal mining of our country possesses delicate sustainable developing trend, is short of harmony between its subsystems and the gross output lacks elasticity to the import of minimal resource. According to this conclusion, the paper has analyzed the restricting factors of the development and put forward some suggests about how to realize the sustainable development of the nonferrous metal mining of our country.
