Mining cities in China have contributed in social and economy development.However, with mining exploration mining cities are facing decline. Economytransition of resource-depleted mining cities and sustainable development arebecoming a universal problem to all over the world.On definition of mining city, different scholars have different standards, and nounitive standard has come into being till now. On study of conception, definition, lifecycle theory and sustainable theory of mining city, the dissertation learns from other'sstrong points to offset its weakness and brings forward a comprehensive andscientific definition.All scholars hold the view that mining city should prepare economy transition as theystep into recessionary period. The author argues that mining city should prepareeconomy transition at beginning of the formation. In this way, not only can provideenough capitals for transition but can avoid environment pollution and geologicaldisaster, so as to ensure stable transition of city economy in future.For a long time, study on economy transition of resource-depleted mining cities andsustainable development are confined in qualitative study. Taking Baiyin City as acase, the dissertation evaluates sustainable development with entropy and weightcoefficient method. The dissertation builds up six index systems of sustainabledevelopment evaluation, and creates a mathematical model. Therefore, thedissertation develops entropy and weight coefficient method and makes it more fit forsustainable development evaluation.On base of 15 years sustainable development evaluation of Baiyin City, thedissertation analyzes entropy situations of evaluation index. In view of flexuous andrapid increasing trend of environment entropy, the dissertation relates ContingentValuation Method to weighted average method effectively and evaluates environmentpollution in Baiyin.The dissertation applies SWOT analysis, which is often applied in corporations, toresource-depleted mining city. The author builds up SWOT analysis matrix, analyzesall situations of Baiyin City, and puts forward SWOT transition schemes.On ground of Ultimate Aim Theory, the dissertation establishes pyramid aim systemof economy transition and develops Ultimate Aim Theory. In angle of searchingmaterials with low entropy and slow down entropy speed, the dissertation gropes foran economy transition way of resource-depleted mining city and puts forward generalcounter measures of realizing economy transition and building harmonious society.
