The existing management theory lays particular stress on the levels of enterprise perfonnance and capability. However, the research of enterprise needs is rare. Following the research path from enterprise behavior, capability to needs, the nature of enterprise would be further uncovered. Taking the enterprise needs as the research objects, this dissertation proposes a primary theory about the hierarchy of enterprise needs.The first part of this paper puts the isolated studies on enterprise needs from psychology, management, economics, business ethics, complexity science into a new analysis framework of the hierarchy of enterprise needs, in which the personal needs and the needs of enterprise system are synthesized and divided into four incremental levels—existence needs, order needs, ethics needs and self-actualization needs. A four-level-needs structure model is constructed. The correlation among levels is discussed and the fundamentality of each layer demonstrated.Secondly, the principle of the hierarchy of self-organization system is studied, the negative entropy flow can be produced by self-organization process within the system, there are many resources of obtaining energy, matter and information to make negative entropy flow besides the outer environment. The equation of entropy variety describing the irreversible entropy increase process, self-organization process and hetero-organization process of open system is proposed. From the perspective of systems science, this paper gave the reasons why an enterprise in rough environment can survive and develop. A three-level analytic frame of entropy flow of enterprise system is constituted and a mathematical model of enterprise interior entropy flow is proposed. Then, based on analysis on the evolutional laws of entropy flow at enterprise's different growth stages, a curvilinear model is given which demonstrates the relationships between order parameters and enterprise interior entropy flow, and the curve of corporate lifecycles given by Ichak Adizes is improved.Thirdly, the existence needs and order needs of enterprise are studied, and the need of institution is analyzed from the views of classical economics, new institutional economics, evolution theory of society, game theory and evolutional economics respectively.
