Cultural Change And The Development Of Tourism Study

Cultural change is an eternal law in the realm of social culture. To pay close attention to cultural change is not only the tradition of western Anthropology but also the problem for Chinese Ethnology to study. To focus on the changes of Chinese ethnic culture taking place in the course of modernization is the responsibility and task of Chinese Ethnology. Culture is the base on which tourism to depend. Tourism will not be sustainable without supporting by culture. If we have rational knowledge about the contents, forms, essences and directions of ethnic cultural changes, and lead the changes to virtuous way, we,can make ethnic tourism sustainable. More and more scholars focus on the influences that cultural changes have on sustainable development of tourism in recent years. Although there have been some research of specific cases, the range and depth should be developed. The current researches about tourism and culture in Fenghuang County are scattered and there haven't books on this title to be published so far, ether. Current researches in this field are mostly done from view of the discipline of tourism, and there haven't been comprehensive and systematic research from view of cultural change. Under the background of globelization and ethnic culture varied, to inquire into the relation between culture change and tourism in specified ethnic areas will benefit to promote economy, society and culture to develop in ethnic areas.I consulted and read many related documents to finish this thesis, and I went to Fenghuang County to make field investigation during last summer and winter. This thesis tries to disscus the title deeply and comprehensively on the bases of field investigation and other's achievements.This thesis consists of one introduction and five chapters.The introduction elaborates the significance and purpose to select this title, reviews the related achievements at home and abroad and introduces theoretical guide, methods and train of thought for this research.Chapter One introduces general situation in natural environment, tourism resources on ethnic culture and current devalpoment in tourism in Fenghuang County.Chapter Two is the focus in the thesis. This chapter focuses on the main changes in ethnic cultural changes in Fenghuang County in different periods, especially since moden times. There are the following changes: changes in clothes, diet, houses and traffic etc; routine ceremony and propriety; ethnicfolk arts; festivals ; mode of production and life styles; ideology.Chapter Three is another focal point in this thesis. It discusses that culture is a character of tourism and the founction of culture in tourism. At the same time, it expounds ethnic culture changes in Fenghuang County has both positive and negtive influnces on sustainable develpoment in tourism. Finally, measures taken to preserve cultural relic and historic sites, acievements made are epitomized. Viewpoint to strength building humane environment is put forward to preserve cultural relic and historic sites.Chapter Four analyses the factors and mechnism which bring about cultural changes in Fenghuang County. Factors that cause cultural change in Fenghuang County can be summerised to the following: historical and geographic enviroments, education, marriages betwween ethnic groups and social changes etc. The mechnism of culture are transmission , acculturation and invention.Chapter Five deals with how to balance development between culture and tourism.
