The relation between urban and rural areas is one of the most basic and importantrelations in the economic and social development of the human society. How to correctlydeal with such relation and realize the coordinate development of both areas is the majortask of carrying out the idea of scientific development and building up a harmonioussociety. Based on reviewing the urban-rural theories and experiences both at home andabroad, this paper studies the advanced modes for urban-rural coordinative developmentin the coastal area of China. It also discusses on the new mode and mechanism forurban-rural development, the methods to establish urban-rural supporting systems underthe new situation as well as the path selection and institutional innovation in the future byanalyzing the current problems and features in this area.The paper believes that the urban-rural coordinate development in the coastal areasis inevitable because of its good foundation and conditions, but there are still somedifficulties and obstacles. Therefore this paper suggests that a coordinative relation shouldbe built up between urban and rural areas and the comprehensive regulation system beimproved so as to innovate the systems of government administration, property rights,element circulation, motivation promotion, policy chioce of industry reverse-fosteringagriculture and social security thereby to establish an operation mechanism favorable forthe interactive urban-rural development which will ensure the effective supply ofurban-rural public goods.Accelerate the transformations from dual economy to integratedeconomy, from dual social construction to integrated urban-rural society, from spacesegregation to urban-rural integration, from traditional vicious circulation of urban-ruralpollution to an urban-rural interactive and mutually complementary eco-system, andeventually realize the coordinative development of economy, society, life, environmentand space between urban and rural areas. Besides, the paper also adopts the mathematicsmodels of the urban-rural coordination degree to reach an overall evaluation ofurban-rural relation in the developed costal areas.
