The main theme of this thesis is the interaction of international trade and labor standards, at the same time this thesis also analyzes the models of international labor standards. This thesis consists of three sections including ten chapters. Section 1 surveys the theoretical literature on international labor standards, and gives an overview of the main arguments provided in this literature. Section 2 tests the interaction of trade and labor standards, based on empirical analysis. Section 3 analyzes the models of international labor standards.Section 1, including chapter 1 to chapter 3, proposes the dominant theme of the thesis. Chapter 1 proposes the dominant theme of the paper by referring to research background and significance. Chapter 2 reviews the literatures that concern the background of establishing international labor standards. Chapter 3 introduces the selection and definition of labor standards. This chapter also considers the possibility that labor standards were regulated by WTO.Section 2, including chapter 4 to chapter 7, analyzes the interaction between trade and labor standards. The chapter 4, chapter 5 and chapter 6, analyze the issue of trade and labor standards with sectional data for a sample of developed and developing countries to. It seeks to answer three questions: firstly, whether labor standards affect the export performance of countries; secondly, whether labor standards affect FDI; thirdly, whether trade and FDI affect labor standards reversely. Chapter 7 uses a time series approach analyzes the effects of labor standards on the export and FDI of China.Section 3, including chapter 8 to chapter 10, analyzes the models of international labor standards and puts forward some feasible suggestions of solving the problem. Chapter 8 examines the relationship between the codes of conduct and labor standards, explores the characteristics of voluntary labor standards using the data from SAL Chapter 9 analyzes the welfare effects of different labor barrier policy measures on developing countries through partial equilibrium framework and proposes some advises in the end. Chapter 10 is the final concluding section, presents results and discusses the future research direction.
