China's sustainable and rapid economic growth has received great attention from scholars and decision-makers both at home and abroad. Researches have been focusing on analyzing the factors influencing economic growth in the past 20 years since the reform and opening to the outside world. Scholars have analyzed and studied them from the viewpoint of capital accumulation, human resources, the degree of opening to the outside world etc. In this dissertation, from the perspective of technology diffusion and technology spillovers, the effect that domestic R&D capital stock and international R&D spillovers have on China's total factor productivity (TFP) has been analyzed.Based on the review of both domestic and overseas theoretical and empirical studies on technology spillovers and economic growth, theory of endogenous growth, theory of technology diffusion and spillovers, theory and method of econometrics etc. are adopted in this dissertation to systematically and carefully analyze the effects that domestic R&D capital and international technology spillovers have on China's TFP since the reform and opening to the outside world. The quantitative relationship between technology spillovers and TFP is discussed as well. This dissertation is composed of two parts that are relatively independent and closely related. The first part, theory discussion, expounds the basic theories about technology system and technology diffusion, influencing factors of technology diffusion, and technology spillovers and their channels, establishes a R&D-driven endogenous growth model explaining the effect of technology spillovers, and with the model analyzes the effects that human capital, the adsorbing ability of R&D sector, the level of economic integration and so on have on the stable growth rate. In addition, an empirical analysis model based on technology spillover effect is established in light of the characteristics of technology or knowledge in public and private goods of both supplying and recipient countries. The second part, empirical analysis, analyzes the effects that domestic R&D and international R&D spillovers through import and FDI have on China's TFP including quantitative analysis of the long-run influence caused by estimation of China's total factor productivity, domestic aggregate R&D, and international R&D through import trade and FDI, and a quantitative analysis of the effect that domestic regional science and technology input, international R&D spillovers through import and FDI have on China's regional TFP.The ridge regression method, cointegration & VEC model, panel data model and other quantitative methods are used to empirical analyze and the results are also demonstrated. The empirical analysis shows a long-run equilibrium relationship among TFP, domestic R&D, international R&D spillovers through import trade and FDI in China.
