Waste and low efficiency in the construction industry force people to think how tochange production methods and organization. Compared to the manufacturingindustry, information technology applied in the construction industry is still far frombeing adequacy, which is a key element of inefficient construction production. Thanksto high degree of IT applied, manufacturing industry implements PLM (ProductLifecycle Management) successfully, and it has brought enormous economic andsocial benefits. Therefore, drawing lessons from PLM, how to implement BLM(Building Lifecycle Management) strategy in construction industry has become animportant research topic, which also is the aim of this study.Construction and manufacturing sectors, there are many similarities, but they stillhave their own unique characteristics. Consequently, different from PLM, BLMshould have its own meaning. From building lifecycle view, this dissertation isdevoted to studying the theoretical system of BLM and the methods of itsimplementation, including the basic concept of BLM, infrastructure ofimplementation, technical support, and so on. The main contents of this dissertationinclude:(1) Analysis of the basic concept and main philosophy of BLM;(2) Based on analysis of the characteristics of the construction production, methodsof construction organizations interface management, several kins oforganizations model, ways and means of organization collaboration are putforward;(3) Based on Process Management theory, the process model of building lifecycle(including the whole construction process model, the design and constructionprocess model, and the design process model) and the Generic ConstructionProcess Protocol are constructed or improved;(4) Three levels of information integrated and their models in BLM are proposed orimproved, that is Integrated Construction Product Information Model (BIM,Building Information Model), Integrated Construction Product-ProcessInformation Model (Project Model), and Integrated Building LifecycleInformation Model; the architecture of integrated information system forrealizing information integration and BLM is designed, and the specific methodof development is also given.
