Since the introduction of the reform and opening policy,Great changes have taken place in Chinese labor market. On the one hand, with the rapid development of economy, the demand for labor force becomes very blooming. On the other hand,With the deepening of the reform of economic system and the the improvement of labor marketization, labor market segmentation becomes a salient feature of Chinese labor market.During the course of economic transition since the reform, there are a lot of laid-off workers, rural migrants and foreign labor of Foreign found enterprise in Chinese labor market. The enterprises of different ownership types, the differentiation of labor's human captial, enterprise and position's individual demand to labor, and the unperfection of legal and policy system, constituted the tangled labor relation and derived various market segmentation.Labor market segmentation weakens the plasticity and ability that labor market suit the economic changes, marginalizes the society group, aggravate the society inequality, hampers the development of harmonious society.Consequently, the problem of Chinese labor market segmentation has became a significant research subject on the areas of economic and social development.Chinese government and academia pay more and more attention to this problem. This paper tries to combine economy, society with space together in geography view, and carries out a more systematic and deeper research to labor market segmentation. It not only corrects the trend that ignored the space research, but also emphasizes the combining theory with practice,macro-level and micro-level, Qualitative and Quantitative research. The author hopes that this findings have a significant contribution to explainning the phenomena, summarizing the regularities and policy making.Based on theoretic frames of neoclassical economics and institutional economics, taking the case of Shanghai, the author widely collects census data, statistical yearbook, specific subjects about employment and industry statistics data, and carries out questionnaire survey and depth interview with various enterprises. Then analyses problems and put forward opinions on basis of master the materials fully. The dissertation consists of four parts and total eight chapters. The first part is composed of Chapter One and Chapter Two.The analysis will focus on the development of the theory's spectrum of labor market segmentation. Based on lots of Chinese and foreign literature,The author review some important labor-market segmentation theories and become the stabile basis of the following analysis.Neoclassical economic theory particularly address the labor market segementation by analyzing labor supply. The supply-side factors are related to labor's personal characteristics and human-capital endowments. From the perspective of institutional economics, the segmented labor markets is shaped by institutional structure. The second part consists of Chapter Three,Chapter Four and Chapter Five.It mainly focus on the analysis of the Chinese labor market segmentation process on space-time dimension. The article clarify the evolution process of Chinese labor market segmentation, following by selective analysis of the space segmentaiton of Chinese labor market on two chapters. The space segrnentaiton was the weaknesses in previous work, and study in this aspect will be strengthened in this paper. At the national levels, the author explore the regional disparities of Chinese labor markets as measured by unemployment rate and labor participation rate. The regional data of unemployment rate indicates that the unemployment rate is higher in middle and west provinces and lower in eastern coastal provinces.Of couse,it has some ruleless phenomena. The regional data of labor participation rate indicates that the number of provinces which have higher rate is more in coastal area than middle and west area. The coastal provinces are accounted for two-thirds,and the residual provinces are accounted for One-third.The labor participation rate of Beijing,Tianjin and Shanghai are lower than the average level of country.By using econometric model techniques, this paper investigates determinants of unemployment rate and labor participation rate inequality across China's provinces. At the urban levels, starting with the analysis of labor urban-rural intersection, the author analyzs mainly differentiations between urban labor and migrant workers on the respects such as employment opportunities, wage, working hours, occupational mobility, working stability. The empirical findings revael a typical two-tier labor market in which migrants labor and urbanites are structurally segmented into different labor markets. The idea accords with the fact of spatial segmentation stronger than past study. The paper also demonstrates the reasons of market segmentation of"local-outside" labor market. The third part is the Chapter Six.This part focus on the scctoral segmentation in labor market.By the clew of ownership system and industry, the author explores three parts of employment market, wage level and employment demand between industries, sectoral segmentation of labor market, the differentiation of labor market space, occupational delamination and space distribution, etc. Then the location quotient of different occupation in various districts and counties in Shanghai are drawn to maps. The fourth part consists of Chapter Seven and Chapter Eight. This part discusses on mechanisms of influence in labor market segmentation and policy proposals on how to build a standardized labor market.Law,policy and rule usually have influences on the market segmentation, among the household registration system is the most influential one.Local government introduce a series of policies and measures about outsider employment and classification administration, work out all kinds of relative cards and projects for administrative charges. All of these become the obstacle of free movement of labour and the migrant labor admittance. This part focus on the dispution on new Labor Law and Grading System about the graduates who want to get a registered permanent residence on Shanghai. The paper reflect the great influence of government policy on labor market segmentation in details. Some questionnaires and depth Interview are used to analyse the influence of the enterprise action, especially recruit behavior,on labor market segmentation. The conclusion on the basis of first-hand data has a realistic significance on constructing larbor market and regulating enterprises behaviors.Human capital differentiation exercises a great influence on the labor market segmentation in china. The topic of last chapter is how to push the standardized construction of labor market. Then put forward some proposals on labor market integration, the normalization of informal employment, and the construction of more flexible labor market.
