Research On Competency Of International General Contract Project Managers

With the sustainable development of economic globalization, China's international project general contracting companies are facing international opportunities and challenges. As the core leader of project management, project manager is very important for project success and company's remaining invincible.Under this background, this paper deeply studies on the competency of international project manager. Firstly, competency of international project manager was analyzed based on a questionnaire survey of critical events, which indicated the competency consists of four dimensions such as personal traits, managerial skills, interpersonal relationship and basic skills and these four dimensions interact upon each other and consist of 22 competency characteristics. The influence of four dimensions and 22 characteristics on comprehensive competency quality of international project manager was obtained by confirmatory analysis. Then, the author put forward that performance of international contracting project was examined by two dimensions of project objective and project acceptance and these two dimensions consists of 7 indexes. Calculations were performed based on a structural equation model software, which indicated there is obvious correlativity between international project manager's competency and examined performance and proved that the competency model is practical for examining international project manager's performance.
