Prison narration is one of the important literary phenomena in Chinese contemporary literature, but little attention has been paid in academic field for a long time. From the perspective of prison narration, this dissertation aims at analyzing and presenting the writing mode and transforming process of prison literature from 1949 to 2010, different writing styles, cultural value, psychology as well as its external and internal reasons are expected to find out in this research, which is considered in this article as the metaphor of prison narrative discourse in Chinese contemporary literature.From the diachronic perspective, prison narration in Chinese literature experiences a from conscious to unconscious process. Prison narration in Chinese ancient literature almost stayed in the unconscious state, with the dependent theme of the prison narration discourse. Mythological narration strategy is the main feature. However, as an origin of the contemporary literary prison narration, some cultural values in the prison narration in Chinese ancient literature still often appears in the prison narration discourse in contemporary literature. As the modern cultural transformation of the Chinese prison system, self-consciousness of prison narrative appeared in modern literature named the "living hell", its consciousness is characterized on the Western prison system to meet the need of "modernity". Since prison narration in Chinese modern literature is already fully conscious and independent, political and literary manifestations of narration is the main features. However, under the influence of ideology, these narrative works largely hid in varying degrees the modernizing results of the Chinese prison system improvement. Concerning contemporary literature history of China, the significant volatility of prison narration is observed. There are three periods of the prison narration: Maoist Era", the New Era and the New Century in the recent ten years. During the three periods, there were two obvious low points one is the "cultural revolution" and 1990s in the last 20th century. This wave refraction from a specific dimension reflects the tortuous course of social transformation in contemporary China.From the humanistic perspective, the transformation of prison narration in Chinese literature shows that at different times, people are holding different attitudes toward human being. And writers have different ideas and mentality. This volatility is also an important reason for the development of prison narration in Chinese contemporary literature. Generally, prison narration focused on new construction of pure man in political system in Maoist literature. So, writers are much influence. Prison narration in New Era Literature focused on reconstruction of humanistic value. Rationality of man" is its primary choice. Prison narration in New Century Literature preliminary appears to diversify with the participation of mainstream culture, subculture and academic culture. The prison narration of Humanities consciousness becomes clearer and more profound. Although the three prison narratives all have their own shortcomings in varying degrees, it is fully reflected the history of contemporary Chinese ideological emancipation. During the two low points in the history of prison narration, dramatic transformation of political or economic system in China. has been done. So the conclusion has been made that "political Carnival" in the "cultural revolution" period and in 1990s are under the influence of economic trends, which becomes the focus of attention by people who decentralized. Overall, the obvious humanistic features of prison narration is represented by three periods:literary works of prison narration by the scholars in Maoist era and in New Era.On the basis of overall observation of prison narration in Chinese contemporary literature, framework of this dissertation is set up . Historically, prison narration at the three stages are the main concern.This thesis is divided into six parts.The first part is the "Introduction". Firstly, subjects and academic terms are to be defined. Secondly, literature review is done.The second part is to introduce the history of prison narration in Chinese contemporary literature. The consciousness of prison narration and its developing process are mainly observed in order to put prison narration in the historical context. should have in literary prison narrative, and the trend in conscious tortuous course of Chinese literary prison narrative, in order to study prison narrative Chinese contemporary literature of in a historical pedigree context.The third part mainly focuses on the ethnics of prison narrative in Maoist era, which could be illustrated from three parts. The similarities and differences between prison narration and revolution narration are found. The influence of political power on literature leads to the construction of the images of prison narration and the pursuit of value in literature. And the last part in this chapter focuses on the prison narration and writers’ mistreatment that is caused by the negative effect of the narrative trend. In Maoist Era.The fourth part is to reconstruct cultural value for the sake of enlightment. The phenomena of prison narration and its cultural connation are analyzed. The interpretation of prison narration in Cong Weixi and Zhang Xianliang’s literary works are the main focuses in the two case study. The lost cultural spirit in 1990s has resulted in the gap of prison narration.\The fifth part is on comprehensive prison narration, mentioning the further influence of mainstream culture, subculture and academic culture, which marks the more mature period in social and cultural psychology. Of course, it does not mean to be perfect. I myself state my attention and worries on the lack of artistic and ideological value, at the end of this part. The six is the conclusion for provoking questions to encourage people to focus on prison narration.To sum up, the dissertation aims at the writing strategy to focus on prison narration in Chinese contemporary literature. What is more, prison narration shows different nature and quantity in different periods. By the diachronic descriptions, the true essence of prison narration will be learned. It is the metaphor.
