Cultural paradigm gives birth to music education paradigm of its time. Chinese music education since the20th century has been formed and explored in the orientation of industrial civilization’s ideology and epistemology, it is strongly based on tool theory. When it was on the development of being systematical and standardization, it could not avoid the flaws inherent in modernity and highlighted a range of issues. Now, facing with the call of the times and requirements of ecological civilization and also seeing the weakness of the instrumental music education, we found that ecological view, with its unique theoretical perspective, can provide new direction for the improvements and transcendence of modern music education industry.This research applies ecological holism as a methodological basis and its discussion is based on the status of music education in China. First, it reviews the history, the current characteristics, the crisis and the problems of music education. Based on this, it suggests that the ecological holism can be a new theoretical supporting point for the development of music education, and explains the ecological attributes of the various elements in music educational system, believing that ecological music education should be the pursuit of music education during our time. Then the research gives a basic framework of ecological music education, which includes the following:the living world should be the foundation and the end of music education; the integrated development of musical ability and humanities should be the goal of music education, and the principle of dialogue should be from the very beginning throughout the end. Finally, applies the of ecological holism as a logical starting point to construct an instruction framework of music education which meet the current needs of current music education, including the concept of music curriculum and the design of curriculum, such as body sensations, the creation of the ecological context of the music learning, advocacy on group corporation, etc.This paper argues that applying the ecological concept in the study of music education is questioning and reconstructing of modern paradigm of music education which was based on the philosophy of Western epistemology. The new music education paradigm will emerge from the loss of the human spirit dominated by instrumental rationality, and highlights the cultural understanding and experience of the music and the construction of life, understanding and constructing the meaning of music from the human point of view. It eliminates closed consciousness which seeing the western musical culture as the center, at the same time, advocates localization as well as diversity. It emphasis on integrity and experience of music education process, and also emphasis on dialogue and generation of humanity and science, thus music education can adopt a more open attitude which towards integrity. It has great importance and significance in promoting the cultivation of a complete person. The purpose of the research is to explore the developmental direction of music education discipline, to provide a thinking framework of global music education observation for the development of music education in the ecological civilization period, and to realize the transcendence of tool theory to ecological theory in music education, to re-discover the value and significance of traditional oriental music (which includes the local music) and music education system, and to provide the oretical reference for the return of the music education localization and the launching of multicultural music education.
