| In the field of e-Reading, the trend is turning from "reading screen" to "reading diagram", which reflects the new demands for knowledge acquisition. People are no longer satisfied with superficial technical availability, and pay more attention to the contents quality. In the field of e-Learning, the trend is shifting from "surface learning" to "deep learning" by information technology’s innovation in education. Under the development of e-Learning environment and digital media technique, a contradiction is how to integrate the increasingly rich media technology and practical application, which means that more attention needs to be transferred from technical focus to practice concerning so that the technology can be used in tool-mediated, contextualized, functional and applicable way. New media is the combination of thinking, methods and tools. The new media and technology support on content design will help to break through the simplicity of knowledge representation and transcend the thinking limitations and realize deep learning.The research of educational semantic diagram arises from the achievements on e-Textbook research. In response to educational field’s expectation on e-Textbook’s research and application, there is an issue to be solved that the applicable e-Textbooks need to be provided for meeting the teachers and students requirements. During the endeavor on seeking a solution, the educational semantic diagram is inspired and generated in the light of exploration on new media feature and resource requirements. That is, research on educational semantic diagram is not only a solution on existing research and also generates a new research.Complying to the learning technology’s tendency and e-Textbook’s practical requirements, this research put forward a new media " educational semantic diagram", which serve as knowledge carrier and high order thinking tool, further more provide scaffold for meaningful learning and deep learning. Especially with the latest technology e-Textbook’s further study, educational semantic diagram can be taken as a knowledge visualization method and integrated with e-Textbook for promoting both teaching and learning.Educational semantic diagram is a new diagram media for carrying and representing knowledge, which represents the abstract information and knowledge, including concept, principle and the relationship, with visual elements in their semantic rules. Educational semantic diagram can promote human’s understanding with the help of integral and vivid representation, and then enhance knowledge’s acquirement, internalization, communication and application. Semantic diagram has the knowledge structured, design objectified, content encapsulated and diagram logicalized characteristics. The entire process in this study is divided into five phases:concept demonstration, integrated analysis, modeling construction, technical implementation and tryout verification.Firstly, on the basis of research on diagram representation, knowledge visualization and e-Textbook, this study de-structures and demonstrate the concept of "educational semantic diagram", strengthens the necessity of the study and elaborate the multidimensional perspective on understanding educational semantic diagram. In this stage, the problems on research foundation and theoretical concept have been solved, which is also the start of this study.Secondly, on the basis of proofs-of-concept, the study analyzes and discusses the working mechanism of semantic diagram in a holistic perspective. After expounding the environment of new media, this study elaborated the educational semantic diagram from the structure of diagram, structure of knowledge. From these, this study proposes and constructs the functional structure and functional mechanism of semantic diagram. In this stage, the problem on semantic elements of the carrier, content and context and the question on how new media functions are worked out.Thirdly, based on the object-oriented idea, this study models the semantic diagram in two aspects. On the one hand, from the perspective of learning resource, the resource model is posed in conceptual hierarchic and resource description. From the perspective of technique, the component hierarchical model is constructed. Then this study raises the object-oriented technical models, which describe the elements and relations in semantic diagram objects by object model, describe the change and control in semantic diagram by dynamic model, and describe user’s specific requirements to semantic diagram by the function model. Therefore, for the purpose of visual learning resource’s requirements, users can choose appropriate visual components to construct knowledge and resource based the knowledge rules. In this stage, the problem of semantic diagram function position in e-learning platform and the problem of reusable and open visual knowledge construction are addressed.Finally, based on the e-Textbook technical environment, an integration mechanism is put forward for implementing semantic diagram, and then technical verification and application verification have been taken. The integration mechanism and its’ implementation verify the technical feasibility. Moreover, application verifications are carried out from the different users’ perspective. On the hand, this study verifies the tool’s practicability and usability according to teachers’participation. On the other hand, this study verifies acceptability and usability of using this visual knowledge to provide learning resource. |
