The premise of learning about a person is to know his or her living condition.Middle school is an important stage for students. On the one hand, middle school students are experiencing rapid changes in body and mind; they are rebellious in the transformation from adolescents to social individuals that they might conflict with their family, society and school, all of which poses serious challenges to middle school students’ living conditions. On the other hand, our examination-oriented education has put on students extremely heavy schoolloads and tremendous physical and mental pressure. Thus, middle school students show more contradiction, complexity and repeatability compared with primary school students and college students. In theory, as a specialized organization of education, school is ideally the place where students were treated as human beings, with their individual development being respected, their significance of human life being highlighted, their state of existence given great concern. But in reality, we often see adolescents’living conditions on campus are not something to be optimistic about:their life was treated indifferently, their human vitality being oppressed and meaning of life twisted. Such phenomena are so common that they have become a social problem being criticized. How to understand and interpret this reality and how to explain the internal cause of this phenomenon has become one of the many questions to be answered in the process of education reform. The author has worked in professional education media for about 30 years, which accumulated in return rich interview experience. The author deeply feels that the ultimate goal of education is to fulfill the humanistic concern for the pupils, and make the pupils shine as human beings. The reality, however, left much to desire. Even though the slogan"all for students, for all students" have been advocated much, we pay too little attention to the students, especially middle school-people’s most important stage in growing up-students’ real living conditions. In real education, the abstract concept of educating people is given far more elaboration than that of the care and concerns for individual beings. Therefore, the author is interested to study campus living conditions, emotional view and values of middle school students. At last, the author decides to focus on this subject so as to probe deeper on contradictions and problems in middle school education and figure out direction for education reforms.Actually, the purpose of education is the core issue of education theories. The basic contradictions include the contradiction within individual development, conflict between individuals and groups, and the incompatibility between the development of the individual and society. Throughout the ages, all educational projects are centered on how to resolve above conflicts. And to resolve those conflicts, it is inevitable for educators to care about life and humanity because it is the right way, if not the only way, to achieve freedom and happiness of the students. Therefore, to a large extent, education should pay more attention to the living space, the living and developing conditions of individuals. This study is an empirical research on the current living status of middle school students in rural and urban areas. Questionnaires and interview are adopted as research methods. All together,58 middle and high schools in urban or rural areas are surveyed as samples. They scatter in 21 provinces, municipalities or autonomous regions across the nation. The research is conducted under three main dimensions, namely, middle school students’living conditions in natural life, spiritual life, and social life. To be specific, the research analyzed from the following aspects:the condition of nature life, self-worth, self-efficacy, parent-child relationships, peer relationships, teacher-student relationship, satisfaction level on campus life, cognition on learning status and social role, social role playing, citizenship and behavior. By analyzing into the materials collected, this study attempts to give a comprehensive and objective reflection of the living conditions of middle school students. The researchquestions of the thesis are:1. How’s the campus living condition of contemporary middle school students?2. What are the problems and heterization of the contemporary middle school students’ living conditions?3. How did the above problems arise?4. What measures could be taken to solve the practical problems of the middle school students?5. What policies should be implemented in the education system to alleviate the problems facing the living conditions of the students?Main contents of the research include:The first chapter is introduction where the reason and background for putting forward the questions are elaborated. Literature review on relative research, research goal and research mind-map, and relative concepts are also given description. The second chapter is the brief introduction on the middle school students’living conditions. It mainly introduced theories relative to the campus living conditions of the middle school students, including theories on the essence of living conditions, living status, the influencing factors and analyzing dimensions, research frame on campus living conditions of the middle school students. The third chapter is the design of the campus living conditions of contemporary middle school students. It includes the behavioral phenomena and experts’counsel of the middle school students’living conditions, the composition of "contemporary middle school students’ living conditions research questionaire" and "interview outline of contemporary middle school students’living conditions".The fourth chapter is empirical analysis of middle school students’natural life living conditions. It includes theories relative to natural life, data collection and analysis on natural life index, problems and its causes of natural life conditions. The fifth chapter is empirical analysis of middle school students’spiritual life living conditions. It includes theories relative to spiritual life, data collection and analysis on natural life index, problems and its causes of spiritual life conditions. The sixth chapter is empirical analysis of middle school students’social life living conditions. It includes theories relative to social life, data collection and analysis on natural life index, problems and its causes of social life conditions. The seventh chapter is conclusion and suggestion. Through primary stage of study on theory and research, and data analysis on field studies, conclusions on contemporary middle school students’living conditions were drawn. And suggestions on how to improve campus living conditions of middle school students through education reforms were put forward. The researcher first made clear a measurement for high school students’living state. Then through communicating with the front-line educators and students, the study discovered and concluded the problem of living condition of high school students. And then combining related studies the researcher designs the questionnaire. The research has dawn on the author a couple of new findings:for example, the performance of vast majority of middle school students is satisfying. They are willing to make contribution to society. The figure shows that, students born after 1990 and 2000 have the sense of responsibility. This is different from what society thought. Meanwhile, there are great achievements for school to focus on students’ specialty development, and in a large area, the phenomenon of score discrimination for teachers becomes less. However, a serious fact is that, although the new round national curriculum reform has worked for 15 years, middle school education doesn’t see substantial changes. Near 70 percent of middle students still think it’s too hard to follow in class. City is the worst-hit area for schoolwork burden. Almost one in five students has lost their interest, which means deep crisis in middle school education. The study compliments previous studies in its elaboration on "everyone is a unique being", and based on data of empirical study, three concepts in promoting the education equality has been put forward.First, the essence of education equality is to provide an environment for each and every student to realize his or her potential;Second, a satisfactory school is one that can fully satisfy students’interests and hobbies, that their talents could be developed;Third, to care for each and every student, the schools should care for their very hobbies and interests. Most domestic schools pay all their attention to the enrollment rate; this is especially the case for the elite schools. The government’s education administration department should guide the schools to shift their focus from enrollment rate to the care for the development of the students’interests and hobbies, thus to strengthen the students’ confidence. With such a change, the living conditions of the middle school students could be...
