The Research On China’s Intensive Urbanization

The21st century is a century of urbanization, which is irrecoverable historical trend. In accordance with the global urbanization rule, China has entered the critical stage of rapid urbanization development. Influenced by traditional urbanization mode, some regions of China possess misunderstanding on urbanization, simply regarding urbanization as town number increase, town scale expansion, urban population percentage rise and urban economy growth, unilaterally pursuing urbanization speed, neglecting the inner quality of urbanization, which reminds us that we should explore new urbanization mode, namely exploring urbanization issue from the angel of intensive development, or intensive urbanization.1.Main contents of this dissertationChapter1expounds the research background, aim, significance, conception and methodology, laying a foundation for the theoretical analysis and empirical study on China’s intensive urbanization.Chapter2appraises relevant domestic and foreign theories, including connotation of urbanization, relevant foreign theories and domestic study, etc.Chapter3borrows foreign proven experience in urbanization and retrospects China’s urbanization process. This chapter reviews foreign urbanization history and process, pointing out the main lessons in global urbanization. Whilst, reviews the process of China’s urbanization, analyzes the present situation of China’s urbanization, and researches on the weakness and its reason of China’s traditional urbanization.Chapter4on the basis of borrowing relevant theories and foreign urbanization experience, establishes the scientific and substantial theoretical framework of intensive urbanization. First of all, apply the concept of intensification in economics for development into the research on urbanization, defining the connotation of intensive urbanization. Second, confirms the evaluation index system for intensive urbanization, including indexes concerning population, space and industry intensification. Next, analyzes the impetus mechanism of intensive urbanization, and concludes that the mechanism comprises two fields: the main body of intensive urbanization, including the people, businesses and governments, and the impetus origin in intensive urbanization, including urban-rural resultant of force, constrains of population, resources and environment, and the safeguard of systems. Last, advances the strategy and roadmap of intensive urbanization.Chapter5to7expatiates on the intensive development of population, space and industry in the process of intensive urbanization. In the aspect of population intensive urbanization, confirms the connotation of population intensive urbanization and its relationship with the overall development of the people, put forward the urban population scale optimum and calculation conception and method for compatible urban population scale, and especially the difficulties in population intensive urbanization, namely the balanced and equal treatment of migrant workers and urban residents. In the aspect of space intensive urbanization, first, expatiates on the relationship between intensification in urban space utilization and green human habitat, and analyzes the main factors affecting the intensive urban inner space utilization. Second, confirms the definition of urban system, and analyzes the general rule in urban system development and the relevancy between urban system and region development. Last, conducts in-depth exploration on intensive utilization of urban lands. In industry intensive urbanization, first, expatiates upon the inner connection among intensive industry development, industry structure, cluster, and hi-tech industry. Next, explores intensification of urban industries, intensive utilization of resources, and environment protection. On one hand, researches the relevancy between intensive urbanization and intensive utilization of resources, and put forward measures for intensive utilization of resources. On the other hand, researches the significance of environment protection in the process of intensive urbanization, and advances the major problems and their solutions in urban environment protection.Chapter8from the institutional economics angel, analyzes the impetus of institutional innovation towards intensive urbanization. On this basis, especially analyzes China’s present systems concerning household registration, lands, social insurance, employment, urban infrastructure construction investment and financing, industry policies, and the barriers brought by informal systems to intensive urbanization, brings forward the difficulties and their solutions in system innovation.Chapter9in accordance with the conception, objective and task, advances suggestion for the intensive development of urban system, population and industry in Chengdu, Sichuan, and then conduct special research on water resource utilization in Chengdu.2. The research on impetus mechanism overcomes the weakness of one-sidedness and abstractness in the research on China’s urbanization impetus mechanism in present documents.D. advances the general conception and solution for intensive urbanization, which is conducive to theoretical research and real practice.
