The Mechanism And Empirical Study On The Influence Of Industrial Agglomeration On Regional Innovation In China

Industrial cluster, as a form of industrial organization, has a great advantage in enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises. In the light of market demand, industrial cluster continues to promote the development of enterprises by professional infrastructure supporting and proper division of work in centralized production, thereby enhancing regional economy. In China, industrial cluster, which originated in the coastal area in the1980’s and spread extensively all over the country since then, has become a crucial source of techonology innovation and an important indicator of regional economy development.This dissertation, beginning with technological innovation theory and industrial organization theory, focuses on the topic of industrial cluster and regional innovation development in a modern economic research way by literature review, normative analysis and empirical analysis. Econometric analysis method is used in the analysis of industrial cluster’s influence on reginal innovation. According to the analysis above and our industry and innovation spatial layout, this thesis makes suggestions regarding national and regional innovation strategies.The thesis is organized as follows:The first part is introduction, which mainly includes the research background, purpose and significance, together with the structure, research methods and innovations of this research. Moreover, it summarizes the existing research results, and puts forward the breakthrough point of this paper by elaborating on previous domestic and international literature.The second part is theoretical research,which analysis the theory basis of industry cluster’s influence on the regional innovation. It first summarizes related theory on the industrial cluster and regional innovation respectively, following with the perspective of enterprise innovation, and the concept of cluster network and cluster technology spillovers, focusing on factors such as specialization of cluster in the regional innovation and cluster knowledge spillovers. At the end of this part, it systematically analyses the effect of industrial cluster on regional innovation.The third part is the empirical research.It includes chapters3,4,5. Chapter3starts with the measurement indicator of total factor productivity, and then estimates the level of growth in1985-2010China’s three major regional provinces using the growth accounting method. It then sets up a dynamic panel data model, which analyses the influencing factors of regional differences. Results show that the growth rate of our country regional capital investment and the growth rate of total factor productivity have obvious regional differences, that is, a downward trend from east to west. Human capital level, the degree of opening to the outside world, and industrialization level have a relatively significant effect on regional innovation level.Chapter4is an empirical study on the impact of industrial agglomeration on regional innovation.,It establishes econometric model to study how the domestic industrial cluster technology diffusion influences the surrounding area of the productivity of enterprises from the aspects of geographical distance and technology. Results show that the role of technology diffusion in promoting productivity of enterprises gradually weakened as the distance gradually expanding between sender of the technology(industrial cluster) and recipient (enterprises).Chapter5includes case studies of how the industrial agglomeration in Hubei Province promotes regional innovation. It analyses the current situation and characteristics of industrial cluster and regional innovation in Hubei province, and the influence of industrial agglomeration on regional innovation. Based on these results, related conclusions and suggestions are put forward from the perspectives of dominant industries screening, innovative industries development mode and development strategies.The fourth part presents conclusions and policy recommendations. It summarizes the analysis of the whole text, and puts forward the main research conclusion. Taking into account of current situation of industrial agglomeration and regional innovation in our country, suggestions are made from the aspects of industry planning, policy making, system building, cultural cultivation according to the national and regional development strategy and industrial innovation space layout.
