Child’s development has been always the most concern of the parents. How to grow the wholesome new generation in the Chinese traditional culture, with diversified environment, in the metropolis as Hong Kong? This is also a big concern in the education field, social-welfare field and government. On the other hand, we also found that there are many social issues and highly related to the family education, those are also related to the underdeveloped parent education. In this research, we take the parent education as an entry point, to advance parents’ personal development, by improving their self-awareness&self-education capability; improving families’relationship by better family interaction and harmony; improving child’s development and wellness by improving family education effectiveness.In the first chapter, we discussed the overall situation and issues in Hong Kong, where leads to the needs of the modernized parent education. We also give a brief about Hong Kong’s parent education development. The introduction about this research’s purpose, significances and procedures are also given in this chapter.In the second chapter, we discussed the parent education in many dimensions, such as a review of the Chinese traditions, environmental differences, now-a-days parent’s needs, the parent’s role and preparation, as well as the characteristic of the modernized approach-Dialogic parent education.The third chapter focuses on the construction of the Dialogic parent education approach. The discussions are in the philosophy, principals, characteristics, approaches and methodologies also.The fourth chapter is all about the implementation, reflections and outcomes. The main practice is to implement the approach at researcher’s family and involved all families. The secondary practices are the public parent education activities, such as talks, seminars, courses, on-line services and in-depth individual interviews. Based on the comparison and analysis of those outcomes, and discussed the findings, we concluded that the Dialogic parent education is an effective approach.In the fifth chapter, we discussed the difficulties of promoting Dialogic parent education in Hong Kong, and the limitation of this research. We also gave some suggestions and prospects about the further development.
