Research On High Technology Service FDI Affects On Manufacturing Efficiency In Host Country-Base On Mediating Effect

The acceleration of Economic Globalization and the development of high and new technology has accelerated the process of worldwide industrial transfer. A new round of industrial transfer guides as technology and focuses on service,not only transforming the development pattern of world service industry,but also profoundly changing the development mode of the country’s economy and industry.It becomes important factors in determining a country’s international competitiveness.Active participating in service globalization and undertaking the cross-border transfer of service industry,is an important way that host country absorbs international technology spillovers and promotes the development of service industry.It is also the objective requirement that host country provides service and technical support for the relevant industries and promotes the improvement of efficiency in domestic industry.High technology service industry is the integration of modern service industry and high-tech industry. It is supported by high and new technology such as network and information technology. It is the emerging service industry, providing high technical content and high value-added services. High technology service industry has extensive corration, which has greate influence and relevance with the upstream and downstream industries in the industry chain. High technology service industry has an important impact on increasing manufacturing efficiency and improving industrial structure.Therefore, this paper will puts forward the issue that high technology service industry FDI impacts on manufacturing efficiency in host country.It has important significance to promote the development of high-tech services in host country,improve the technology efficiency and competitiveness in manufacturing industry, and accelerate industrial upgrading.Under D-S framework, this paper expands Knowledge Spillover Dual-Increase Model, analyses the endogenous mechanism that the technology spillover of high technology service industry FDI improves the manufacturing efficiency. Then, based on the theoretical model, this paper introduces manufacturing costs and the innovation ability as intermediary variables.It empirically analyses and compares the result that high technology service industry FDI affects on manufacturing efficiency in China,United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore. Next, with Stochastic Frontier Approach, this paper empirically analyzes technical efficiency, further verifying the affect of High technology service industry FDI on technical efficiency in the different development levels of country. Finally, this paper selects the panel data to analyze the determining factors which influences manufacturing efficiency. The thesis covers eight chapters. Chapter Ⅰ is introduction, presenting backgrounds, methods, contents, possible innovations, key contents and difficult contents of the study.Chapter II defines key concepts and reviews related literature. Chapter Ⅲ presents the development and trends of FDI in services, providing the realistic material for the study.Chapter IV, This paper analyses the endogenous mechanism that high technology service industry FDI improves the manufacturing efficiency. Under D-S framework, this paper expands Knowledge Spillover Dual-Increase Model and creates the following theoretical mechanism: High technology services cumulative effect is applied to decrease manufacturing costs, that is to say, manufacturing cost is reduced by inter-temporal spillovers effect of High technology stock, thus promoting manufacturing endogenous growth and improving production efficiency.In Chapter V, It testes empirically the effect of high technology service FDI on manufacturing efficiency. Based on the above theory framework, Referring to the approach from Feng Taiwen (2009), Zhao Wei, Zheng Wenwen (2011),with the mediation effect testing program proposed by WenZhongLin etc.(2004),this paper introduces manufacturing costs and the innovation ability as intermediary variables,and testes empiracally the effect high technology service industry FDI improves manufacturing efficiency by lowering manufacturing costs or improving innovative capacity with industrial panal data.Thereby it verifies the theoretical mechanism.This study adoptes industry panel data from United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore respectively. With the above empirical method, it testes theoretical mechanism and compares the empirical results.In Chapter VI, with Stochastic Frontier Approach, this paper further verifies the influence of High technology service industry FDI on technical efficiency.By measuring technical efficiency, it corroborates the different impact of High technology service industry FDI on manufacturing efficiency in the different development levels of country.In Chapter Ⅶ, With the multinational panel data, based on theoretical model, this paper empirically analyzes the factors affecting on manufacturing efficiency,such as FDI amount, labor employment, industrial expenditure,and so on.In Chapter ⅤⅢ, this paper puts forward countermeasures, such as enlarging to open high-tech services, improving human capital, and so on.The possible innovations in this thesis as follows:(1) In theoretical aspect, the current domestic and abroad research about service industry FDI is less, while the research about high technology service industry FDI is more less, which is often studied by static method. Under D-S framework, referring to endogenous growth theory, this study establishes endogenous mechanism that high technology service industry FDI promotes the efficiency in the manufacturing industry. From the dynamic perspective,this paper analyzes the theory mechanism that high-tech service industry FDI affects on manufacturing efficiency.This Study deepens the research content of service FDI, expands research perspectives of endogenous growth theory.(2) In empirical aspect, as for promoting relationship between service industry and manufacturing industry, the existing literature generally analyzes the forward and backward linkage effects of service FDI on manufacturing efficiency, while the literature rarely analyzes the path that high technology service industry FDI impacts on manufacturing efficiency, which is very important to improve manufacturing efficiency. With mediation effect method, This study makes empirical analysis on the effects of high technology service industry FDI on manufacturing efficiency in host country. It makes up for the shortcomings and deficiencies of research on FDI inter-industry spillover effects.(3) The services statistics means and methods is still not to be perfected in the world.The various country’s statistical standards are not unified.The concept about high-tech service is not yet defined clearly, completely and unifiedly in academia and industry field.While most of the domestic literature studies with the provincial data or the whole industiy data,this paper empirically studies with specific industry data in China, United States, Japan, Korea, Singapore respectively.The data is collected difficultly.(4)The research history of High-tech services is relatively short, this paper analyses and compares the effect of typical national high technology service industry FDI on manufacturing efficiency,summarying and referring to their successful experience. It is conducive to promote manufacturing structural adjustment and upgrade by developing modern service industry.It has important practical significance for China to realize the transformation of economic growth mode,change China’s low-end position in the international industrial chain.
